United Kingdom Security

Established in 1946, with a subscribed capital fund of 7.67 million, the primary mission of the World Bank is to combat poverty by securing low cost funding for sustainable development. The largest shareholder is the U.S., followed by the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, and Eranee. 

Applicants are free to solicit advice from individual Member States and according to various surveys conducted by the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, they often do. Apart from the FDA, these surveys reveal, the EU Member States most often consulted are Germany, France, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Flowever, it is often important to secure a pan-European advice. Article 51 of Council Regulation EEC/2309/93 requires the EMEA to provide the Member States and the institutions of the Commimity with the best possible scientific advice on any question relating to the evaluation of the quality, the safety and the efficacy of medicinal products for human... 

Chemical Defense Establishment of the British War Office, was part of a larger effort by scientists in the United Kingdom and United States to explore the pharmacological and clinical aspects of mustard gas injury (Beale 1993).9 The first successful results appeared in April 1941. A year later Auerbach and Robson delivered their initial report of these experiments to the British Ministry of Supply. The report was considered confidential, however, and British censors delayed full disclosure of their findings until the war s end.10 In the interim, but still a full three years after completion of their initial experiment, Auerbach and Robson managed to publish a half-page research note in Nature (Auerbach and Robson 1944). That brief communication is remarkable mainly as an artifact of the British wartime security apparatus and less as an announcement heralding an important scientific discovery.

Wehrli (1997) stated case reports from Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom and the activities of the Pharmaceutical Security Institute (PSl), which was founded by the majority of ethical pharmaceutical companies and operates under the auspices of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (IFPMA). Wehrli further indicated that an API may be counterfeited in one country, passed by a circuitous route into another for formulation, from there to a third country where the product is sold. 

Also in Chapter 1 we briefly mentioned the case of poisoning of the Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko. Litvinenko, a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service, FSB and KGB, escaped prosecution in Russia and received political asylum in the United Kingdom. He suddenly fell ill in London on the 1 November 2006, was hospitalised, and died three weeks later, becoming the first confirmed victim of lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome. Traces of the polonium-210 were subsequently discovered at various locations in London visited by Mr Litvinenko as well as in Russia and on two British Airways flights.
