Particular attention, in the design of this model calciner, was given to the utilization of combustion heat of volatile matter emitted from the coke feed and to obtaining an accurate heat balance data for the two-stage calcining system. 

Mustard Mustard is immediately destroyed at temperatures above 500°C to S02, HQ, C02 and water vapor. The contractor operated a commercial, transportable 7 MM Btu/hr incinerator which could readily achieve an organic destruction efficiency of 99.9999% and which was used to destroy frozen bulk mustard introduced as solid waste and to thermally treat agent-contaminated metal scrap. The incinerator incorporated a two-stage combustion process, e.g., a rotary kiln (900°C, 1.5 tonnes/hr capacity) and a down-fired secondary combustion chamber (1200°C, 2.5s residence time), backed by a venturi wet flue gas scrubber. System components were erected on a prepared concrete foundation and housed in a prefabricated building to provide shelter for the equipment and operators. Natural gas from a nearby well provided a fuel source. 

The principles for flue gas cleaning will be similar to those for pulverized coal combustor boilers, except that in addition to the use of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for NOx reduction, various other combustion methods can be used, such as two-stage combustion, and a rebum concept in which 15%-35% of the coal is pulverized, and added into the main boiler chamber, bypassing the cyclone furnace. 

In Chap. 23 we reviewed several problems pertaining to steam jet precondenser and intercondenser problems. The surface condensers, which serve condensing steam turbines, are subject to all the same problems and a lot more. A standard surface condenser package with an associated two-stage jet system is shown in Fig. 25.3. By way of summarizing many of the problems that occur with this sort of equipment, I will relate my trials and tribulations with K-805, an auxiliary combustion air blower at the Good Hope Refinery in Norco, Louisiana (now Valero). 

W ste Hea.t Boilers. In a conventional FCCU flue gas system, the regenerator combustion gases pass through two stages of cyclonic separators, a sHde valve, orifice chamber, waste heat boiler, and electrostatic precipitator. The sHde valve and orifice chamber act in combination to reduce the flue gas to essentially atmospheric pressure. 

Dust explosions usually occur in two stages a primary explosion which disturbs deposited dust followed by the second, severe, explosion of the dust thrown into the atmosphere. Any finely divided combustible solid is a potential explosion hazard. Particular care must be taken in the design of dryers, conveyors, cyclones, and storage hoppers for polymers and other combustible products or intermediates. The extensive literature on the hazard and control of dust explosions should be consulted before designing powder handling systems Field (1982), Cross and Farrer (1982), Barton (2001), and Eckhoff (2003). 

The zero-emission energy recycling system (ZEROS) is a closed-loop thermal oxidation process that incinerates waste and recycles flue gas emissions for electrical co-generation. The technology uses a two-stage plasma torch combustion system, energy recovery system, and combustion gas cleanup systems.
