Results. (1) Deposition on 1-mil Tungsten Wire. Some of the results obtained are presented in Table II. The corona was maintained continuously in all runs. In Run 28-1 the current fell from an approximate initial value of 12.3 ma. peak to a 3.5 ma. peak in 9 min., after which it was nearly constant. The peak voltage changed from 6,900 to 13,190 volts. The filament obtained in this run is apparently the desired type, although not of optimum thickness. 

C. For this purpose, a silver-plated table, cooled by an ultracryostat, was used. The thin-walled tubes were fixed onto this table. The crystals were pushed into these tubes with a thin constantan wire, and the tubes were then sealed with a hot tungsten wire. 

MMCs are usually reinforced by either monofilaments, discontinuous fibers, whiskers, particulates, or wires. With the exception of wires, which are metals, reinforcements are generally made of advanced ceramics such as boron, carbon, alumina and silicon carbide. The metal wires used are made of tungsten, beryllium, titanium, and molybdenum. Currently, the most important wire reinforcements are tungsten wire in superalloys and superconducting materials incorporating niobium-titanium and niobium-tin in a copper matrix. The most important MMC systems are presented in Table 18.5.

Generally, boron fibers are made by means of boron vapor condensing on some carrier materials, such as of tungsten wires, glass, graphite, aluminum, and molybdenum, and the typical fiber diameter with tungsten wires as carrier materials is around 12 pm. Boron fibers are preferable to make some composites. Typical properties of boron products are shown in Table 2.71. 

Gramme quantities of protactinium could be deposited when the dissociation wire was replaced by an induction heated tungsten or protactinium sphere (3). Table II lists selected methods of actinide preparation via the vapour phase. 

The discussion thus far has been mainly about platinum, but extensive results are also available for nickel wire, for supported ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium and iridium,with a few for nickel, iron and tungsten films, " and for Au/Si02. Each metal is unique in the values it shows for the relative rates of the component processes, and their dependence on operating variables their behaviour is most economically described by reference to the four parameters p,q,r and s that give approximate fits to the experimental results a selection of these is given in Table 7.5. Because these parameters are defined as ratios (see Scheme 7.1), differences in their values over-emphasise changes in relative rates they are therefore re-defined as... 

Yuang-Cherng Chiou et al. at the National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan, developed an EMM setup as shown in Fig. 5.13(a). This setup was located on a plate of a vertical work table so that it is easy to adjust its position of the vertical direction.
