Trunnions design

The valve has floating seats on the upstream and downstream sides of the ball. In most trunnion designs, the differential pressure on the upstream seat provides the major loading to seal the seat to the ball. [Pg.162]

All drum filters (except the single-compartment filter) utilize a rotary-valve arrangement in the drum-axis support trunnion to facih-tate removal of filtrate and wash hquid and to allow introduction of air or gas for cake blowback if needed. The valve controls the relative duration of each cycle as well as providing dead portions of the cycle through the use of bridge blocks. A typical valve design is shown in Fig. 18-121. Both floating and trunnion-mounted designs are available with other design variations that include metal seied valves, soft seated valves, top-entry valves, end-entry valves, and split body valves. Valves in all these design variations are available as either full port or reduced port. Port refers to the round-bore fluid flow area through the ball. Full port valves have a bore that is approximately equal to the inside diameter of the mating pipe. Reduced port valves have a bore that is approximately equal to the inside diameter of pipe one size smaller than full bore. [Pg.97]

Integral pipe attachments are welded directly to the pipe and are usually of special design. They are used in high temperature services, with moderate or severe loads, and in conjunction with supports, braces, and restraints where rigidity with the pipe shell is desired. Integral attachments may be grouped into five types ears, lugs, shoes, cylindrical trunnions., and skirts (see Fig. 8). [Pg.60]

The worst case is dependent on the tjqje of vessel and the type of attachments. For e.xample, there are three types of trunnions described in this procedure. There is the bare trunnion (Type 3), where the wire rope slides around the trunnion itself. While the vessel is in the horizontal position (initial pick point), the load produces a circumferential moment on the shell. Once the vessel is in the upright position, the same load produces a longitudinal moment in the shell. At all the intermediate angles of lift there is a combination of circumferential and longitudinal moments. The designer should check the two worst cases at 0° and 90° and several combinations in between. [Pg.387]

VII.3. The criticality section of the SAR for a transportation package should include a description of the packaging and its contents. This description should focus on the package dimensions and material components that can influence reactivity (e.g. fissile material inventory and placement, neutron absorber material and placement, reflector materials) rather than structural information such as bolt placement, trunnions, etc. Engineering drawings and design descriptions should be invoked to specify the details of manufactured components. [Pg.347]

Although the mill heads (end walls) are designed on the basis of sound structural and metallurgical principles, and are manufactured and tested with all possible care, fracturing and damage cannot be completely ruled out. The evaluation of the elbow trunnion supports demonstrates that the machine bolts for the connection detail must be at least 1 inch in diameter. As-built walkdowns have shown that the placement and size of these bolts do not conform to the design. These supports should be modified to reflect the design.
