Truck-tractor diesel fuel

Heavy distillate (straight-run distillate or SRD), containing compounds that boil in the range 205°C to 275°C (400°F to 530°F). This material is hydrotreated to remove sulfur compounds and can then be blended into heating oils and diesel fuels for trucks, railroad engines, and off-road applications such as tractors and mining equipment. 

Gas oils have a brownish hue and are slow to evaporate. Diesel engines have made them important as fuels for trucks, tractors, locomotives and boats. They are also cracked to obtain gasoline. 

Delta Airlines is using a hydrogen fueled tow tractor at the Orlando Airport. General Motors has delivered its first fuel cell truck to the U.S. Army. The U.S. Navy plans to use fuel cells for ship-board power with hydrogen sourced from diesel fuel. New fuel cell technology from SANYO may power IBM Thinkpad notebook computers for 8 hours. 

Biodiesel performs similarly to diesel and is used in unmodified diesel engines of trucks, tractors, and other vehicles and is better for the environment. Biodiesel is often blended with petroleum diesel in ratios of 2, 5, or 20 percent. The most common blend is B20, or 20 percent biodiesel to 80 percent diesel fuel. Biodiesel can be used as a pure fuel (100 percent or BlOO), but pure fuel is a solvent that degrades the rubber hoses and gaskets of engines and cannot be used in winter because it thickens in cold temperatures.
