Triethylammonium salts, ethanol solutions

Reagents. Aqueous ethanol solutions of the triethylammonium salts of adenosine-5 -[a-S2P]triphosphate (a- PATP), adenosine-5 -[7-S2P]triphosphate (7-S2P-ATP), thymidine-5 -[a-S2P]triphosphate (a- p-TTP), cytidine-5 -[q-S2P]triphosphate (a-S2P-CTP), and guanosine-5 -[a-S2P]triphosphate (a-S2P-GTP) were purchased from Amersham (Arlington Heights, IL). Radioactive sample concentrations reported for detector efficiency determination were adjusted from the manufacturer s specifications after subjecting several diluted aliquots of the stock solution to liquid scintillation counting. 

Palfray and Sabetay246 added an emulsifying agent, Gardinal, to aid in the oxidation of the water-insoluble 1-0-benzylglyceritol. Aqueous solutions of methanol,247 248 ethanol,13 - 249-261 dioxane,74 - 262 266 acetic acid,230 - 266 and acetic acid buffered with lithium acetate164 have been used. The use of lithium periodate or triethylammonium periodate in aqueous alcohol solution has been suggested,267 because of the solubility of these salts in this medium. 

The product was isolated by passage through an ion-exchange column (Dowex AGI-X8, HCOg form, 100 mL) and consecutive elution with 200 mM triethylammonium bicarbonate solution. After ion exchange with Dowex AG50W-X8 (H+) and neutralization with cyclohexylamine, the product was crystallized from aqueous ethanol (90%) to afford colorless crystals of o-sorbose 1-phosphate as b/s-(cyclohexylammonium) salt yield 7.7 g (84%).
