Triclofos

Triclofos Sodium Dissolve 25 mg in 10 ml of DW, add 4 ml of 1 M H2S04, 1 ml of a 10% w/v soln. of ammonium molybdate and 2 ml of a methylaminophenol-sulphite soln. and allow to stand for 15 minutes. Add sufficient DW to produce 25 ml, allow to stand for a further 15 minutes and measure the absorbance of a 4 cm layer of the resulting soln. at 730 nm. Calculate the content of Phosphate from a calibration curve prepared by treating suitable vols. of a 0.00143% w/v soln. of KH2P04 in the same manner. NMT 1.0% calculated as po43-. [Pg.37]

Chloral hydrate and triclofos are of some use as hypnotics for children. However these compounds are largely superseded by the benzodiazepines and are not recommended other than for exceptional cases. Chloral hydrate has a low therapeutic index. These agents have an unpleasant taste and odor. The hypnotic effect has a rapid onset but a short duration. Tolerance appears to occur rapidly with a loss of sleep-inducing and sleep-maintaining effects after about 2 weeks. [Pg.348]

Indications. A bright yellow solution or precipitate indicates the presence of phosphorus and suggests an organophosphorus pesticide, especially if the sample is a water-immiscible liquid. Cyclophosphamide and triclofos also react. [Pg.144]

Disposition in the Body. Trichloroethanol is a metabolite of chloral hydrate, trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, and triclofos it has hypnotic activity. It is further metabolised by conjugation with glucuronic acid to form urochloralic acid and by oxidation to trichloroacetic acid. [Pg.1040]

After an oral dose of 22 mg/kg given to 7 subjects, peak plasma concentrations of trichloroethanol and urochloralic acid of about 8 ig/ml and 2 ig/ml, respectively, were reported no unchanged triclofos was detectable in plasma (E. M. Sellers et aL, Clin. Pharmac. Ther., 1973, 14, 147). [Pg.1042]

The following postmortem tissue concentrations of trichloroethanol were reported in a fatality due to triclofos ingestion blood 335 pg/ml, bile 696 pg/ml, brain 326 pg/g, kidney 928 pg/g, liver 690 pg/g, urine 195 pg/ ml other drugs were also detected (D. J. Doedens and J. A. Benz, Bull, int. A.ss. Jbrens. Toxicol., 1976, 72(2), 10-11). [Pg.1042]

HYPNOTICS are agents that induce sleep. They are used mainly to treat short-term insomnia, for instance in shiftwork, to cope with Jet-lag or in sleep disturbances due to emotional problems or in serious illness. The best-known and most-used hypnotics in current use are the benzodiazepines - and this class of drug is also used, at a lower dose, as ANXIOLYTICS. Examples from the class that are of relatively long-lasting action and may cause drowsiness the next day include diazepam, flunitrazepam, flurazepam and nitrazepam. Examples with a shorter duration include loprazolam, lormetazepam and temazepam. All can cause drug dependence on continued usage. Examples of hypnotics that are now much less used include chloral hydrate, chlormethiazole and triclofos. The barbiturates (e.g. amylobarbitone) are now very little used, as they are prone to cause serious dependence and are dangerous in overdose. [Pg.148]
