21-iodo-11 3 11CKdihydroxypregn-4-ene-3 20-dione (5.0 g) in pure acetonitrile (125 ml) was mixed with a solution of 90% phosphoric acid (2.5 ml) and triethylamlne (7.5 ml) in acetonitrile (125 ml) and boiled under reflux for 4 hours. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue, dissolved in ethanol (20 ml) and water (80 ml), was passed down a column of 2eo-Karb225 (H form) (60 g) made up in 20% alcohol. Administer hydrocortisone sodium phosphate or hydrocortisone sodium succinate, 100 mg intravenously every 6 to 8 hours for 24 hours. 

Hydrocortisone sodium phosphate - Administer by IV, IM, or subcutaneous injection. Initial dose is 15 to 240 mg/day. Usually, 33% to 50% of the oral dose every 12 hours. For acute diseases, doses greater than 240 mg may be required. 

Physically compatible up to 48 hours - Ascorbic acid benztropine cytarabine dexamethasone sodium phosphate diphenhydramine doxorubicin heparin sodium hydrocortisone sodium phosphate lidocaine magnesium sulfate multivitamin infusion (must be refrigerated) vitamin B complex with ascorbic acid. 

A limit test is conducted for hydrocortisone in hydrocortisone sodium phosphate. 2 pi of a 1 % w/v solution of hydrocortisone sodium phosphate is compared with 2 pi of a solution containing 0.02% w/v hydrocortisone standard using the solvent system given in Self-test 13.1.
