Pii-8, like Pii-5, is designed to self-assemble at high pH. Comparable shifts in properties were found when studying Pn-8 solutions in 130 mM NaCl (Fig. 12). The p-sheet to random coil transition is lowered by 3 pD units and the pD range over which it forms nematic gels is extended down to pD 8.5 in aqueous NaCl... [Pg.40]

Micellar nanocarriers have already been applied successfully for delivery of hydro-phobic drugs [86]. These carriers are usually the product of self-assembled block copolymers, consisting of a hydrophilic block and a hydrophobic block. Generally, an ELP with a transition temperature below body temperature is used as hydrophobic block and the hydrophilic block can be an ELP with a transition temperature above body temperature or another peptide or protein. The EPR effect also directs these types of carriers towards tumor tissue. [Pg.88]

The phase transition boundaries (phase envelope) of adamantane need to be investigated and constmcted. Predictable and diverse geometries are important features for molecular self-assembly and pharmacophore-based dmg design. Incorporation of higher diamondoids in solid-state systems and polymers should provide high-temperature stability, a property already found in polymers synthesized from lower diamondoids. [Pg.249]

A supramolecular assembly of macromolecules bearing antenna dendron has been reported. Pyrazole-anchored PBE dendrons were synthesized to examine the coordination behavior to transition-metal cations (Cu, Au, Ag) [31]. Self-assembled metallacycles were found. The Cu-metallacycle further formed luminescent fibers about 1 pm in diameter. The luminescence (605 nm) occurred by the excitation of the dendron (280 nm) and the excitation spectrum was coincident with the absorption spectrum of the dendron, suggesting the antenna effect. Interestingly, the luminescence of the Cu-metallacycle fiber disappeared when the fiber was dissociated into the individual metallacycles in C2H2. [Pg.200]

It should be mentioned here that Finke s group has added a whole plethora of significant contributions to the field of metal nanoclusters [295-299] including a recent study on the mechanism for the self-assembly of transition metal nanoparticles [294]. [Pg.34]

For transition and precious metals, thiols have been successfully employed as the stabilizing reagent (capping reagent) of metal nanoparticles [6]. In such cases, various functionalities can be added to the particles and the obtained nanoparticles may be very unique. It is well known that thiols provide good self-assembled monolayers (SAM) on various metal surfaces. When this SAM technique is applied to the nanoparticle preparation, nanoparticles can be covered constantly by functionalized moieties, which are connected to the terminal of thiol compounds. [Pg.453]

Additional combinatorial variation sites allow the heterocyclic self-assembly units. Thus, it has been shown that heterocycles 11 and 14-17 can serve as A-analogous donor-acceptor ligands self-assembling with the T-analogous acceptor-donor ligands isoquinolone 12 and 7-azaindole 18 (Scheme 30) [92]. All combinations form the heterobidentate ligands exclusively upon simple mixing in the presence of a transition metal salt (proven by X-ray, NMR). [Pg.169]

A review13 with 53 references of the transition-metal mediated supramolecular self-assembly is presented. Focus is on the self-assembly of macrocycles, catenanes, and cages from (en)Pd(N03)2 and pyridine-based bridging ligands. [Pg.557]
