Transformation beneficial

This presentation will highlight some NDT applications whereby NDT can be transformed from a "necessary evil" into a situation that is "of beneficial value" to the user. From an activity that has to be done because it is required by the code, to a solution to a problem that can improve safety, enhance quality and save money. 

Of all the work described in this thesis, this discovery is probably the most significant. Given the fact that the arene - arene interactions underlying the observed enantioselectivity of ftie Diels-Alder reactions described in Chapter 3 are also encountered in other organic reactions, we infer that, in the near future, the beneficial influence of water on enantioselectivity can also be extended to these transformations. Moreover, the fact that water can now be used as a solvent for enantioselective Lewis-add catalysed reactions facilitates mechanistic studies of these processes, because the number of equilibria that need to be considered is reduced Furthermore, knowledge and techniques from aqueous coordination chemistry can now be used directly in enantioselective catalysis. 

In the case of non-metallic materials, the term corrosion invariably refers to their-deterioration from chemical causes, but a similar concept is not necessarily applicable to metals. Many authorities consider that the term metallic corrosion embraces all interactions of a metal or alloy (solid or liquid) with its environment, irrespective of whether this is deliberate and beneficial or adventitious and deleterious. Thus this definition of corrosion, which for convenience will be referred to as the transformation definition. 

It must be noted that sometimes calcination is beneficial to create active species. Notable examples are the Sn-beta speciation [176] and generation of extra-framework Al-Lewis sites in beta zeolite for organic transformations... 

Photocatalysts these harness energy from the sun to carry out chemical transformations. These energy-efficient catalysts are proving especially beneficial in destroying harmful waste and for water clean-up. 

If a mixture of organic substrates are to be catalytically transformed into suitable products upon the action of M nanoclusters present inside a nanostructurally well defined CFP, a reagent size exclusion will take place with uniquely beneficial effects in terms of chemoselectivity [35,36]. 

In summary, lycopene must have some specific effect on unknown cellular processes that control the modulation of multiple pathways. General properties, such as antioxidation or pro-oxidation, are unlikely to explain these effects. Since the activation, silencing or loss of pathway control is different for each cell type and its degree of transformation, we do not have enough information to predict whether lycopene may be beneficial or detrimental under different circumstances in various prostate cell lines and in the different stages of prostate cancer. 

Over the years of evolution, Nature has developed enzymes which are able to catalyze a multitude of different transformations with amazing enhancements in rate [1]. Moreover, these enzyme proteins show a high specificity in most cases, allowing the enantioselective formation of chiral compounds. Therefore, it is not surprising that they have been used for decades as biocatalysts in the chemical synthesis in a flask. Besides their synthetic advantages, enzymes are also beneficial from an economical - and especially ecological - point of view, as they stand for renewable resources and biocompatible reaction conditions in most cases, which corresponds with the conception of Green Chemistry [2].
