Transfer molding process

SCRIMP process This Seeman Composites Resin Infusion Process (SCRIMP) is described as a gas-assist resin transfer molding process. As an example glass fiber fabrics/ thermoset vinyl ester polyester plastic and polyurethane foam panels (for insulation) are placed in a segmented tool. A vacuum is pulled with a bag so that a huge amount of plastic can be drawn into the mold (Marco process approach). Its curved roof is made separately and bonded to the box with mechanical and adhesive fastening. It is similar to various reinforced plastics molding processes. [Pg.522]

Beyond saving fossil fuels, polymers are key materials for the development of new energies such as composites for wind turbine blades by the resin transfer molding process. The development of composites is also a determining factor for the transport sector, as shown below. [Pg.392]

Most thermosets are molded with the compression or transfer molding process (tires, dinnerware, electrical components, etc.). Some products, usually iimdler ones, can be made using the injection molding process in specially 1 or modified injection molding machines. Some thermosets are used as Is, applied to sheets or mats of glass and other fibers, and then cured under low) pressure and heat. (Examples are plywood, particle board, structures, etc.)... [Pg.66]

Compression and transfer molding processes are high-volume, high-pressure methods suitable for molding simple to complex parts. (See Chapter 6 for details.)... [Pg.276]

The resin transfer molding and liquid transfer molding processes are used principally for manufacturing fiber-reinforced composite parts in moderate to high volumes. The process combines the techniques of hand lay-up, liquid resin casting, and transfer molding, as discussed earlier in this chapter. [Pg.457]

One highly significant appUcalion of transfer molding is the direct encapsulation of electronic components and semiconductor devices. The transfer molding process has the capability, with the correct low-viscosity resin, to successfully mold around incredibly fragile devices and whisker wires. [Pg.567]
