Training courses/programmes

After five years as an analyst, Vicki moved within LGC to work on the DTI-funded Valid Analytical Measurement (VAM) programme. In this role, she was responsible for providing advice and developing guidance on method validation, measurement uncertainty and statistics. One of her key projects involved the development of approaches for evaluating the uncertainty in results obtained from chemical test methods. During this time, Vicki also became involved with the development and delivery of training courses on topics such as method validation, measurement uncertainty, quality systems and statistics for analytical chemists. 

An outline of the programme for a typical observer training course, which usually lasts one and a half days, is given in Appendix A. VVhile there may be slight variations in particular circumstances, the objectives of the programme are as follows ... 

The Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry of NAFU provides on the regular basis the training courses on environmental safety for officials, managers and specialists from the industries of northwest of Russia. During last 5 years 476 representatives of the industrial firms completed their training in accordance with this programme. 

The second was a minimal training programme for providing the skills that are necessary to pass the driver s test. Since this included not more than a total of about 20 h instruction in the classroom, on the test track and on the simulator combined, and only 1 h of actual driving by the student, this course contained considerably fewer hours of instruction than the typical high school training course. 

Their awareness of this need arose from their exp>erience when networking with local authority contaminated land officers (CLOs) in 2005 when delivering a programme of training courses on groimd gas characterisation. 

Several other manufacturers and distributors run short courses and training schemes, open to persons outside their own organization. A recent innovation is the Open Tech programme, a course in private study for personnel who have the initiative to do so in their own time.
