On a national basis, Toys require compliance of limits for the same impurities as outlined under food packaging. In particular trace metal amounts have to be considered as well as threshold limits for aromatic amines, soluble in 0,07 m hydrochloric acid. The trace amount of cancerogenic amine should, depending on the various countries, not exceed 5 or 10 ppm.

SBCs have also been used in toy applications that do not require clarity. Because SBCs can be easily colored, are durable and have very high gloss, they are used for non-clear components. Although often used in the neat form, SBC can also be blended with other polymers such as high-impact polystyrene.

These alloys are of vital importance in the construction of modern aircraft and rockets. Aluminum, evaporated in a vacuum, forms a highly reflective coating for both visible light and radiant heat. These coatings soon form a thin layer of the protective oxide and do not deteriorate as do silver coatings. They are used to coat telescope mirrors and to make decorative paper, packages, toys.

Secondary Treatments and Uses. Because hardboard products are utilized in a myriad of different ways, the variety of secondary treatments used by customers are practically unlimited. Hardboards are used in furniture, cabinets, paneling, doors, toys, and a host of other uses. Post-treatments may include cutting-to-size, finishing treatments with roU-appHed patterns, melamine overlays, printed paper overlays, paints, and even some extremely durable and water-resistant coatings used in tub and shower linings or other uses where water contact is frequent and extreme. 

Other uses of ABS include consumer and industrial appHcations such as luggage, toys, medical devices, furniture, shower stalls, and bathroom fixtures.

Miscellaneous Applications. CeUular plastics have been used for display and novelty pieces from their eady development. Polystyrene foam combines ease of fabrication with lightweight, attractive appearance, and low cost to make it a favorite in these uses. PhenoHc foam has its principal use in doral displays. Its abiHty to hold large amounts of water for extended periods is used to preserve cut dowers. CeUular poly(vinyl chloride) is used in toys and athletic goods, where its toughness and ease of fabrication into intricate shapes have been valuable. 

Blow-molded products represent the biggest use of HDPE resins, at around 40%. Packaging appHcations account for by far the greatest share of this market. These include such products as botties (especially for milk, juice, and soap), housewares, toys, pails, dmms, and tanks. Expected aimual average growth rates for these appHcations are about 5—6%. Injection-molding products are the second largest appHcation, with approximately 20% of the HDPE market. These products include housewares, toys, food containers, pails, crates, and cases. 

Rotational Molding. Large containers and some toys are manufactured with a specialized technique caHed rotational mol ding. A rotational mol ding machine contains several large metal molds that can be rotated in two perpendicular planes. A load of fine LLDPE particles is introduced into each mold, and the mold assembly is transferred into an oven. Inside the oven, heated molds rotate at speeds ranging from 10 to 40 rpm. The polymer powder melts and is uniformly distributed on the internal surface of each mold. After the container is formed, the mold assembly is removed from the oven and cooled at which point the plastic containers are removed.
