Tools safeguards

Certain tools are perishable i.e. they are consumed during the process. Others are reusable after maintenance and this is where adequate controls need to be in place. The tool control system needs to cover tool selection, set-up, tool change, and tool maintenance You will need procedures for withdrawing maintainable tools from service, performing the maintenance, and then putting the tools back into service. You need to build in safeguards that prevent worn tools being used and to replenish tools when their useful life has expired. [Pg.215]

On the other hand, free amino acid analysis represents a powerful tool to characterize different foods and beverages, monitor proteolysis, assess freshness, detect adulterations, and safeguard consumer health. The occurrence of some potentially toxic nonprotein amino acids (some of which are neuroexcitatory) in commercially available seedlings has been reported by different authors [197-199]. Due to the incapability of humans to utilize the o-isomers of amino acids (some of which are thought to be toxic), the enantiomeric separation of d- and L-form of amino acids is also an area of growing interest [196]. [Pg.582]

Face-to-face customer contacts have been indicated above as the most efficient tool for the safeguarding of existing and acquisition of new business. Customer visits are a three-step effort, namely, preparative deskwork, the visit itself, and the follow-up, which all need careful attention. For details, see Appendix A.7, Checklist for Customer Visit. A tailored 20-30-min company presentation is the centrepiece of the visit. An example for the contents is given in Appendix A.8, Outline for a Company Presentation. [Pg.154]

Generally speaking, the use of toxins as research tools is technically straightforward. One merely adds activated toxin to the cells of interest, then waits an appropriate length of time for the toxin to exert its effects. However, the technical ease of using toxins should not divert attention from the fact that materials must be handled in a way that does not pose a hazard to laboratory workers or to others in the vicinity. Fortunately, the safeguards that are needed to ensure the health and welfare of everyone can be implemented in a way that poses relatively little burden on investigators. [Pg.295]

However, cable-tool systems were slow relative to other developing methods, particularly in softer formations. They had a depth limitation too and, using this system, it was not possible to provide an effective safeguard for pressure containment in the event that the drill penetrated formations under high gas pressures. [Pg.561]

Six European countries are involved in the EMECAP project (2001-2004) Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, Poland and Romania (University of Bucharest - Bucharest). The objective of the EMECAP Project was to improve the tools at the disposal of Regulatory Bodies to plan actions to safeguard citizens health from merciuy pollution. [Pg.326]

Just as your employees need the right hammer or wrench to do their jobs successfully from an operational prospective, it is essential that the safety and health professional properly equip your employees with the essential tools and knowledge in safety and health function. Employees should be equipped with not only the tools but also the reason why the particular tool is to be utilized in a particular job or circumstance as well as the underlying safeguards the particular tool provides to the individual employee. For safety and health professionals, it is relatively simple to provide the safeguard, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), and inform the employee he or she is required to wear the PPE. However, if the employee possesses a voice in the PPE selection process, fully understands the reason for the PPE as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the PPE, there is a substantial likelihood that the employee will wear and appreciate the PPE in the workplace. [Pg.86]

The quality of both product and process essentially affects all of a company s employees and their departments. In order to safeguard the quality standard within a company, agreement is necessary between departments and appropriate procediues and tools for the job must also be provided. These tasks should be carried out by a specialist organizational unit, known as Quality Management. [Pg.102]

Check pneumatic tools to ensrue they are fastened secruely to the air supply hose to prevent them from becoming disconnected. A short wire or positive locking device must attach the air hose to the tool. This will serve as an added safeguard to prevent whiplash if the hose becomes disconnected. [Pg.913]

Guards and guard devices may not provide enough protection for all the operations and activities involved in the use, maintenance, cleaning and repair of machines and tools. Several safeguarding procedures will help prevent accidents from occurring. Remember, procedures do not remove hazards. [Pg.169]

Two main groups of controls for hand tool hazards are safe practices and safeguards. [Pg.170]

Manufacturers typically provide a manual with their machines. The manuals cover hazard identification, safeguards, proper operation and maintenance. Good manuals use imperative writing style that teUs users what to do. Manuals that simply describe the features of a machine are not as helpful and effective. Those who buy machines should keep the manuals so the information is available for reference and training. Some major distributors and sellers of machines and tools also offer safety information and guides. [Pg.173]
