Titania, preparation

Another distinguishing feature of titania prepared by flame spray pyrolysis is the draar e of anatase crystallite size with the increase of flame temperature. Generally, the increase of preparation temperature increases the crystallite size in other processes such as sol-gel method, hydrothermal method [2, 3], flame processing and conventional spray pyrolysis. The decrease of crystallite size was directly related to the decrease of particle size. Fig. 5 shows SEM and TEM images of titania particles prepared by flame spray pyrolysis. [Pg.763]

Adherent, conformal LPD ceramic film either crystalline (Method 2) or amorphous (Method 1) can be obtained on polyimides. This is in contrast to silanol-bearing surfaces (good for Method 1 only) or sulfonated surfaces (good for Method 2 only). The fact that the polyimides accommodate both titania preparations may be due to the partial hydrolysis of the polymer surface under oxide deposition conditions. This provides a mix of carboxylic acid and amide sites that anchor the titania by a combination of coulombic and chelation-based effects.22 An important lesson of this work is that the interaction of the polymer surface with the deposition solution may create oxide film anchoring sites. This does not negate activating the polymer surface. It recognizes that the polymer surface can react further under the deposition conditions. [Pg.67]

Using this method, monochnic zirconia with a large surface area was prepared. Kominami et al. further extended the application of this method and found that titania prepared by this method has a high photocatalytic activity because the product has a large surface area as well as a low number of crystal defects, which can act as the recombination sites for holes and electrons generated by photoactivation. They called this method the HyCOM method. ... [Pg.320]

The IR absorption spectra of the precursor of Au/titania prepared with Mg citrate are shown In Fig. 4. The adsorption band at 1400cm on titania-A might correspond to the adsorbed citrate species. Compared with the case of Au/Mg(0H)2, however, the amount of citrate species is much less on the titania support. [Pg.699]
