M. Barza, C. Peckman, and J. Baum. Transscleral iontophoresis of cefazolin, ticarcillin, and gentamicin in the rabbit. Ophthalmology 93 133-139 (1986)... [Pg.319]

The range of antibiotic that can be measured is usually 0.01 to 1.00 ug antibiotic/mL and has been used for gentamicin, carbenicillin, ticarcillin and amikacin (44-46). The use of the EMIT system, to-date, has been in the clinical area and unrelated to measuring residues of antibiotics. The procedure has potential for residue analysis if interferences by non-specific factors can be overcome. [Pg.151]

A number of antibiotics, including gentamicin, cephazolin, ticarcillin, amikacin, and vancomycin have been successfully delivered into the vitreous of rabbit eyes (Table 26.2). Barza et al. [74] further investigated the efficacy of transscleral iontophoresis of gentamicin for the treatment of Pseudomonas endophthalmitis in rabbits. They found that two sessions of iontophoresis in addition to an intravitreal injection of gentamicin resulted in a significantly lower number of bacterial colonies in the vitreous than by the injection alone. [Pg.561]

In ophthalmology, both trans-scleral and transcomeal dmg delivery has been studied. Drags investigated include fluorescein, tobramycin, gentamicin, ticarcillin, cefazolin, dexamethasone and ketoconazole. Iontophoresis has been found to be both safe and effective in delivering the required doses locally, at the intended site of action. Excepting for lidocaine, which has been tested in human volunteers, all the other drags have been tested in rabbits. [Pg.317]

There are many reports of acute renal insufficiency from combined treatment with gentamicin (or another aminoglycoside) and one of the cephalosporins (174-176). The potential nephrotoxic effect of the combinations seems to be related mainly to the nephrotoxic effect of the aminoglycosides. In contrast, there is some evidence, both experimental (177) and clinical (178), that ticarcillin may attenuate the renal toxicity of the aminoglycosides. [Pg.128]

Gilbert DN, Lee BL, Dworkin RJ, Leggett JL, Chambers HF, Modin G, Tauber MG, Sande MA. A randomized comparison of the safety and efficacy of once-daily gentamicin or thrice-daily gentamicin in combination with ticarcillin-clavulanate. Am J Med 1998 105(3) 182-91. [Pg.135]

Various antibiotics, including azlocillin, aztreonam, cefur-oxime, ceftazidime, chloramphenicol, colistin, flucloxacil-lin, gentamicin, imipenem, meropenem, piperacillin, tazobactam, temocillin, and ticarcillin, were incubated with this patient s serum. Only piperacillin and piperacillin -I- tazobactam caused agglutination in an indirect agglutination test. The authors concluded that the hemolytic anemia had been caused by piperacillin. [Pg.2758]
