Other potential adverse effects include impaired absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K hypernatremia and hyperchloremia GI obstruction and reduced bioavailability of acidic drugs such as warfarin, nicotinic acid, thyroxine, acetaminophen, hydrocortisone, hydrochlorothiazide, loperamide, and possibly iron. Drug interactions may be avoided by alternating administration times with an interval of 6 hours or greater between the BAR and other drugs. [Pg.118]

Drug interaction Warfarin and thyroxine are frequently taken togetirer especially in elderly patients. This combination is thought to be a source of adverse bleeding due to the thyroxine-dependent potentiation of warfarin effects. The results of a 16-year-population-based nested case-control study in which 10,532 patients hospitalised for haemorrhage were matched with 40,595 controls could not substantiate this interaction. There was no increased risk of haemorrhage in warfarin-treated patients receiving levothyroxine up to 30 days (odds ratio (OR) of 1.11,95% Cl of 0.67-1.86), 60 days (OR of 0.76) or 90 days (OR of 0.67) prior to hospitalisation [13 ]. [Pg.636]

Drug/Lab test interactions Certain endocrine tests may be affected by levonorgestrel implants Sex hormone binding globulin concentrations are decreased thyroxine concentrations may be slightly decreased and triiodothyronine uptake increased. [Pg.225]

Amiodarone is a structural analog of thyroxine, and much of its toxicity is related to interactions that occur at thyroid hormone receptors. Pulmonary fibrosis is a frequent adverse effect tliat is related to dose, and drug level doses <200mg/day and maintenance of peak levels <2jLig/mL can help avoid this fife-threatening side effect. [Pg.1256]

Because of certain proprietary considerations, a protein other than the ALS enzyme will be used to demonstrate how molecular modeling techniques can be applied to the design of crop protection chemicals. Human serum prealbumin has been used by Blaney, et al (15) to model drug-receptor interactions. Its function is to transport the hormone thyroxin. The binding site for thyroxin will... [Pg.121]
