Thread worms

One revolution of the worm advances the gear teeth in direct proportion to the number of the worm threads. The most commonly used worms have either one, two, three, or four separate threads and are referred to as single-, double-, triple-, and quadruple- thread worms. The number of threads is determined by counting the number of starts or entrances at the end of the worm. [Pg.962]

Infection with parasitic worms in the United Kingdom is usually confined to round worms or thread worms. In tropical and subtropical parts of the world, infection with parasitic worms is common and widespread. Silk is a fibrous protein produced by several insect species. Commercially, silk is produced from the cocoon stage larvae of the moth caterpillar Bombyx mori, as it has been, in China, for some 4500 years. The guinea worm infection is a very old parasitic disease caused by Dracuncu-lus medinensis which are enlongated thread-like filarial worms living in the deep connective and subcutaneous tissues of man.
