Thin Trim

One of the important factor determining the use of thin trims in optics, particularly in waveguiding configuration are propagation losses defined as... [Pg.623]

Cr+ cations are reduced on the bumper (cathode) to form a thin trim of 1.5 nm thick. How long will it take to produce a 1.5 pm thick electroplated chromium film on the bumper if the total surface area is 100 cm and e = 60% [Solution t s= 100 sec.]. [Pg.239]

The spht is of variable thickness, and some of the spUt is too thin for leather production. The thin parts are trimmed off and discarded for coUagen recovery. The trimmed spUt is tanned separately. [Pg.83]

Construction is similar to that of other drum filters, except that vacuum is applied to the entire rotation. Before feeding slurry a precoat layer of filter aid or other suitable solids, 75 to 125 mm (3 to 5 in) thick, is apphed. The feed slurry is introduced and trapped in the outer surface of the precoat, where it is removed by a progressively advancing doctor knife which trims a thin layer of solids plus precoat (Fig. 18-126). The blade advances 0.05 to 0.2 mm (0.002 to 0.008 in) per revolution of the drum. When the precoat has been cut to a predefined minimum thickness, the filter is taken out of service, was ned, and freshly precoated. This turnaround time may be 1 to 3 h. [Pg.1717]

The finishes produced have very good light fastness and corrosion resistance, and, unlike integral colour finishes, the shade is largely independent of the aluminium alloy and the anodic film thickness used. The whole range of shades can be produced on films as thin as 5 /im, so the finishes are also being used in trim applications. Many patents and publications in the electrolytic colouring field now exist and they have been reviewed by many authors . [Pg.702]

Polypropylene is extensively used in injection molding because of the wide range of physical properties and melt flow rates available. The principal markets served include transportation (primarily automotive), appliances, consumer products, rigid packaging, and medical products. Polypropylene use has increased in the automotive industry because of the wide availability of high melt flow rate impact copolymers for use in large thin parts, such as interior trim. [Pg.1147]

A final alternative for metal patterning is the use of lasers to selectively and accurately etch small metal areas. Lasers are routinely used to trim thin-film resistors (126) they may also be used to repair defects or etch conductor lines by direct ablation in an inert atmosphere (127,129) or by laser-initiated etching in a reactive gas or liquid (128). [Pg.493]

The sections are observed under a light microscope and representative DAB-labeled neurons, and neuronal processes in the region of interest are selected for study with the electron microscope. The sections are trimmed with a razor Wade into small pieces containing the immunoreactive neurons. Thin sections are cut for electron microscopy. The results of this procedure are shown in Figure 8.4. [Pg.178]

Where corrosive conditions do exist, equipment is protected in sulfuric acid units by the use of stainless steel and in hydrofluoric acid units by the use of Monel. Both acids build up a thin layer of iron salt on carbon steel even in the cold. Such a layer of salt causes any moving parts to stick in time, and, therefore, most valves and pumps are protected with alloy trim under normal conditions and are solid alloy under severe conditions. Both types of units will have very little corrosion if properly designed and operated. [Pg.193]
