Thermoplastic polyesters resins

Polyester Resins. The general formula of engineering thermoplastic polyester resin may be given as foUows ... [Pg.267]

Approximately 40 % of the thermoplastic polyester resin that is sold (excluding PET packaging resins) is flame-retarded. PET used for switches, sockets and other applications where the material is in direct contact with live parts of electronic and electrical appliances are required to be flame retardant. [Pg.526]

ZnSn03 has applications in PVC, thermoplastics, polyester resins and certain resin-based gloss paints. [Pg.469]

Definition Crystalline thermoplastic polyester resin formed in a transesterification reaction between 1,4-butanediol and dimethyl terephthalate good heat stability, mech. props., elec, insulation, surf, finish, water ab rption and grease/oil/petrol. resist. [Pg.1291]

Thermoplastic polyester resin can be solvent cemented using hexafluoroisopropanol or hexafluoroacetone sesquihydrate. The solvent should be applied to both surfaces and the parts assembled as quickly as possible. Moderate pressure should be applied as soon as the parts are assembled. Pressure should be maintained for at least one to 2 min maximum bond strength will not develop until at least 18 hr at room temperature. Bond strengths of thermoplastic polyester bonded to itself wiU be in the 800 to 1500 psi range. [Pg.472]

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET, polyethylene glycol terephthalate) n. A saturated, thermoplastic polyester resin made by condensing ethylene glycol, and terephthalic acid, used for textile fibers, water-clear, biaxially oriented film (e.g., Mylar ) and, more recently, for extruded, thermoform-able sheet (TV-dinner trays), injection-molded parts, and large, blow-molded, soft-drink bottles. It is extremely hard, wear- and chemical-resistant, dimensionally stable, and has good dielectric properties. See also polyester, saturated and crystallized polyethylene terephthalate (See image). [Pg.751]

Thermoplastic polyester resin can be solvent cemented using hexa-fluoroisopropanol or hexafluoroacetone sesquihydrate. The solvent should be applied to both surfaces and the parts assembled as quickly as possible. Moderate pressure should be applied as soon as the parts... [Pg.812]

The glass-reinforced thermoplastic polyester resins are nnusual in that they are the first thermoplastic that can compare with, or are better than, thermosets in electrical, mechanical, dimensional, and aeep properties at elevated temperatures (approximately 150°C), while having superior impact properties. The glass fiber concentration usually ranges from 10 to 30 percent in commercially available grades. In molded parts, the glass fibers remain slightly below the surface so that finished items have a very smooth surface finish as well as an excellent appearance. [Pg.422]

A hybrid thermoplastic polyester resin formulated for use in SMC/BMC applications and containing 22% recycled content. The resin provides excellent low profile properties for both structural and zero shrink applications and is soluble in many types of unsaturated polyester resin. It may be thickened using standard alkaline oxides and/or alkaline hydroxides and offers superior hot strength, impact properties and excellent bond and paint adhesion. [Pg.144]

Thermoplastic polyester resins, such as PET and PBT, can contain residual phenolic or carboxylic reactive sites that make epoxysilanes effective. Octyl and phenyl silanes can also he used in combination with organofunctional silanes for thermoset applications to improve dispersion of the resin by matching solubility parameters, increase hydrophobic character, and give greater resistance to the attack of water in the interphase region. Aromatic structures in silane... [Pg.559]
