Themes and issues

The literature reviewed in sections 2—3.6 has shown that oxygen reduction on Pt is quite complex, involving several possible rate-limiting (or co-limit-ing) steps. As we will see in sections 4 and 5, this complexity is a universal feature of all SOFC cathodes, with many of the same themes and issues reappearing for other materials. We therefore highlight below several general observations about the mechanism of Pt that frame the discussion for other solid-state gas-diffusion electrodes involving O2. These observations are as follows. 

As with other chapters in this volume the material presented considers some of the dominant themes and issues in tourist behaviour in this sphere and then explores the value of key conceptual frameworks which can illuminate these topics. Three content themes will be developed in this chapter ...

The essays collected in this volume address a variety of topics that are central to any articulation of a comprehensive philosophy of chemistry. In what follows we briefly discuss each of the key issues and link them to the specific contributions of our authors. In a short piece such as this introduction, we cannot do justice to the subtleties of each author s position, but we think our categorization and commentary offer useful connections between essays. Our goal is to alert the reader to themes and issues that we believe resonate in interesting and surprising ways between authors, rather than draw any substantive conclusions of our own. Still, we hope that some of our observations, interpretations, and attempts at categorization are contentious and spur further discussion.

So many drugs treat so many different medical conditions that a detailed and comprehensive coverage would likely be tiresome. Instead, I will address certain broad themes and diseases that offer both immense challenges and great potential for advances. Rather than review detailed experimental issues, I will confine myself to the big picture" issues, providing examples of specific research only in a few instances, drawing largely from areas I know best. 

Similarly, say you decide to write about your favorite novel. Should you assume your readers have read the novel If they have, should you assume that they read it recently enough to remember its characters, plot, and themes Unless you know for sure, or unless your assignment specifically mentions an assumption ( assume your readers have read The Great Gatsby carefully ), you must provide sufficient background information for your readers. You ll need to briefly summarize the plot and provide context for the specific scenes and issues you d like to discuss. 

The results of the workshop are contained in this monograph. Chapter 2 outlines the social and economic frameworks within which standards are derived and used and provides a wider context for considering when, where, and how standards should be implemented. Chapter 3 continues this theme and explores general issues associated with implementing any standard. Chapters 4 and 5 consider the detail of deriving and implementing aquatic and terrestrial standards. Finally, in Chapter 6 we draw together the overall conclusions of the workshop and provide recommendations on the development and use of standards. We also identify future research that would help to underpin the science of environmental and human health standards. 

In addressing these issues, we will first speak about rather common, generic themes, and then go on to describe more unique, personal concerns. Let s consider some of the possible consequences. 

The outline I have adopted in this volume is simple. The five parts each focus on a different theme of importance to schema theory. Each part opens with a brief introduction, describing its theme and summarizing the chapters contained in it. The first chapter in every part lays out the important issues associated with the part theme, and the subsequent chapters describe my research on arithmetic problem solving that is pertinent to the theme. Although the results on problem solving are important in themselves, I have tried throughout to emphasize the critical features of schema theory and ways we may test them. 

For conciseness, it is not possible to discuss in depth all the research themes and priorities identified, and the issues that need to be addressed in the short-, medium- and long-term to realize the full potential of research and innovation. 

Figure 4 continues the theme and includes the environmental credit for the electricity generated. It is the analysis of this Figure that gives the real process insight. If the desire were to cut the impact of the process, then beyond the issues of Figure 2 the most fruitful route would be to increase the energy efficiency. This is constrained by the low steam temperature and a use for around 80 MW of warm water. 

Although substantial progress has been made, much work remains to be done, especially in the characterization and elimination of damage. Eaeh of these issues invites study by methods of chemical physics and physical chemistry, especially when examined in a simplified model environment. Representative themes and examples, illustrating both progress aehieved and remaining questions, are presented in section C2.18.3. 

A variation of the left-hand side theme and the issues of geometry is that of the semicylindrical trough lying on its side. The physical situation is quite similar to that of the triangular trough, except that the walls follow a circular curve. The physical system is shown in Figure 6.

This chapter provides an overview of nonlinear chemical dynamics and synthetic polymeric systems, the progress that has been made in bringing these areas together, and some issues that merit further study. Some key themes and results of nonlinear chemical dynamics are cited, and an attempt is made to link them to important questions in polymeric systems.
