North of downtown are several commercial enclaves where Dallas young and restless come to carouse. The Routh Street district is undergoing a major revival with a couple of good micro-breweries, bars and New American restaurants. On the main strip you ll find Dream Cafe (2800 Routh St. 170, it 214-954-0486), a cute, health-minded cafe best known for its Texas-sized breakfasts. The dinner menu con-... [Pg.179]

A recent addition to the PDT field has been the expanded porphyrin derivatives known as texaphyrins (that is, Texas-sized porphyrins). Sessler has developed a number of these molecules. Appropriate derivatives absorb as far out as 732 nm, and provide better penetration of the light to tissues. The lutetium derivative, termed motexafin lutetium (Lutrin), is under investigation for the treatmentof breast cancer. In addition,. some derivatives appear to accumulate in atherosclerotic plaques that can line blood vessels, making the notion of photoangioplasty a real possibility. [Pg.991]

The aimual production of pet foods is approximately 6.35 x 10 t, valued at 7.6 biUion (Table 2). It has been estimated that there are as many as 15,000 different brand labels and package sizes of pet foods, marketed by 3000 manufacturers (30). Conservative estimates are closer to 3000 brands (31) and sizes, with 1800—1900 registered iu the state of Texas. [Pg.153]

We have developed another bench for the measurement of the contrast value. Contrast measurement have been carried out on the MMA fabricated by Texas Instrument, in order to establish the test procedure (Zamkotsian et al., 2002a Zamkotsian et al., 2003). We can address several parameters in our experiment, as the size of the source, its location with respect to the micro-elements, the wavelength, and the input and output pupil size. In order to measure the contrast, the micro-mirrors are tilted between the ON position (towards the spectrograph) or the OFF position (towards a light trap). Contrast exceeding 400 has been measured for a 10° ON/OFF angle. Effects of object position on the micro-mirrors and contrast reduction when the exit pupil size is increasing have also been revealed. [Pg.115]

These new results only became possible when the groups of H. Waite and B. Magee at the South West Research Institute (SWRI) in San Antonio, Texas, combined analytical data obtained from two different instruments. These are the ion and neutral mass spectrometer (INMS), which obtained data on small to medium-sized molecules in the upper atmosphere of Titan (950-1,150 km) and the Cassini plasma spectrometer (CAPS), which also registered particles from tholins, both positive (100-350 Da) and negative ions (20-8,000 Da) (Waite et al., 2007 Atrey, 2007). [Pg.291]

Seed yield in cucurbits is seldom investigated because commercial production of the carbohydrate-rich fruit is the major concern. Wide variations in sizes and weights of seeds, numbers of seeds per fruit and even numbers of fruits per plant seems the rule, particularly in wild plants and even within one species (7). Estimations from limited observations of C. foetidissima, Z. digitata and C. palmata growing wild in desert areas indicate theoretical yields Trom ot) to 3,000 lb of seeds per acre ( ,9h C. foetidissima cultivated in northwestern Texas yields approximately 700 to 2,000 lb of seeds per acre (10). C. pepo (pumpkin) produces up to 1,200 lb per acre and an improved seed-coatless line yields from 1,200 to 1,400 lb of seed per acre ( , 11). These yields are comparable to yields of oilseeds of commerce. [Pg.253]

It had been already reported, that the venom of the fire ant Solenopsis invicta is composed of 2-methyl-6-alkyl- or 2-methyl-6-alkenylpiperidines,the carbon chain of which has an odd number of carbon atoms in the range of 11 to 17 [ 115, 116]. Recently, Deslippe and Guo [120] reported that in workers of S. invicta from Texas the relative abundance of each alkaloid was highly correlated with worker size as well as with the ratios of saturated to unsaturated alkaloids. Moreover, young and old workers produced less venom than ants of intermediate age... [Pg.201]

Ocean. The former is estimated to have a surface area the size of Texas. The focusing effect of the Kuroshio Current on the density of plastics collected in plankton net tows is shown in Figure 28.35. In some locations, particle densities are greater than that of the local zooplankton. High concentrations have also been reported on the seabed near industrialized areas such as the Mediterranean and the North Seas. In 2000, the volume of litter estimated to be residing on the seabed of the North Sea was 600,000 m. ... [Pg.846]

The GPC of a local crude (Bryan, Texas) sample spiked with a known mixture of n-alkanes and aromatics is shown in Figure 5 and the GPC of the crude is shown in Figure 6. The hydrocarbon mixture is used to calibrate the length of the species which separates as a function of retention volume. Ttie molecular length is expressed as n-alkane carboa units although n-alkanes represent only a fraction of the hydrocarbons in the crude. In addition to n-alkanes, petroleum crude is composed of major classes of hydrocarbons such as branched and cyclic alkanes, branched and cyclic olefins and various aromatics and nonvolatiles namely asphaltenes. Almost all of the known aromatics without side chains elute after n-hexane (Cg). If the aromatics have long side chains, the linear molecular size increases and the retention volume is reduced. Cyclic alkanes have retention volumes similar to those of aromatics. GPC separates crude on the basis of linear molecular size and the species are spread over 10 to 20 ml retention volume range and almost all of the species are smaller than the polystyrene standard (37A). In other words, the crude has very little asphaltenes. The linear... [Pg.263]

Common haptens used for labeling DNA probes for BISH assays are biotin, DIG, DNP, FITC, and Texas Red. Based on the size of your DNA targets, you may choose from a direct detection or an indirect detection for BISH assays. In general, an indirect detection system can provide better sensitivity compared to a direct detection system. For an indirect detection, you need to select a combination of two antibodies raised with two different animal species, such as a mouse anti-DIG antibody and a rabbit anti-DNP antibody, so that enzyme-labeled anti-mouse antibody and anti-rabbit antibody can be applied for signal detection. If a direct BISH detection is going to be applied, anti-hapten antibodies raised in the same animal species that are labeled with either AP or HRP enzyme molecules... [Pg.349]
