Tests/testing competitive evaluations

The speech recognition research community has long adopted a policy of competitive evaluation where a number of different research groups run their systems on the same test data and report results. In this way, performance differences between systems can easily been seen, and the competitive nature of the evaluation program has been credited with driving forward progress. [Pg.539]

The method adopted was firstly to insist on testing and evaluation procedures that really represented working conditions. A number of possible competitive materials which initially had shown much promise were proved to have fatal weaknesses once realistic tests, such as the incline-plane test for ITV, were available. It is only when the full combination of hostile conditions is available - high voltage, pollution, moisture - that a real assessment of performance can be made. A number of other materials will perform well if one or other of these conditions is absent. The second vital requirement was to publicize throughout the electrical supply industry... [Pg.334]

Evaluations have been conducted using deer, a multiple-choice preference-testing apparatus, and tetramethylthiuram disulfide [137-26-8] (TMTD) (29) or the fungicide thiram as a standard repeUent for competitive tests with repeUent-treated food (78). [Pg.121]

The company was a private label manufacturer of home maintenance and personal care products. Its laboratory would be involved with new product development, evaluation of raw materials, testing of competitive products, and quality control. Laboratory personnel would also be responsible for chemical safety in the plant and for proper waste disposal. [Pg.140]

Not only a lack in knowledge but the endeavour for safety of evaluation and decision by means of the latest (eco)toxicological certainties may result in a competitive disadvantage of new chemical solutions in comparison with established high-volume existing substances. The available testing methods cannot cover all eventuahties. In addition, they frequently produce conflicting results, e g. with re-... [Pg.99]
