Testing technologies user interface

Mass spectrometer (MS) [S] sales have always been high, especially since MS is the principal detector in a number of hyphenated techniques such as GC-MS, MS-MS, and LC-MS. The GC — MS combination accounts for about 60% of MS sales since it is used widely in drug and environmental testing. Innovations in interface technology such as inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-MS, FC-MS and thermospray or particle beam interfaces for LC-MS have both advanced the technology and expanded the interest in applications. Recent introductions of lower cost MS instruments with automated sampling and computerized data analysis have added to the attraction of the technique for first-time users. [Pg.128]

To help the development process go smoothly, data-flow diagrams and scenarios were developed based on these seven functions. Scenarios for each of these functions were used to develop user interface design by using "wireframe" technology. The scenarios were also the used for benchmarking usability testing. [Pg.374]

To prove our hypothesis that two-handed interaction and speech is adopted quite easily and quickly by users, we performed a usability study. Usability evaluation studies seem to be a preferred strategy for the evaluation of multimodal interfaces because it allows the investigation of how users adopt and interact with multimodal technology providing valuable information about the general usability and the user experience. Several types of user testing have been conducted for multimodal interfaces in both usability laboratories and in the field revealing user preferences for interaction modalities based on factors such as acceptance in different social contexts, noisy and mobile environments [18]. An overview on new forms of usability evaluation methods for multimodal interfaces is presented in [4]. [Pg.413]
