Terminalia chebula

A new cyclic heptanone, 4,7-dimethyl-l,3-dioxa-cyclohepta-2-one (163), was isolated from Penicillium thiomii IR7, one of 21 endophytes isolated from leaves, roots and stems of Terminalia chebula in Bangladesh. [Pg.551]

Arabic traditional plants from Egypt. Ali et al. [276] tested 20 different Arabic traditional plants from Egypt. Adhatoda vasica and Peganum harmala showed inhibitory effect on AChE. Ferula assa-foetida, Syzygium aromaticum, and Zingiber officinalis showed activity against COX-1 enzyme. Potent radical scavenging activity was demonstrated in Terminalia chebula, T. arjuna, and Emblica officinalis extracts. [Pg.414]

Ancient healers, developed formulations based on medicinal herbs, were probably not aware about the chemical composition of the herbs. But the advancement they made despite the non-availability of scientific procedures is astonishing. The work on Terminalia chebula (myrobalan) mentioned in Charaka Samhita is quiet authentical and modem studies have revealed that the purgative activity mentioned in Ayurveda is justified by the isolation of chebulic acid, the active constituent of myrobalan. [Pg.7]

For chronic diarrhea which will not stop, add Semen Myristicae Fragrantis (Rou Don Kou), Semen Dolichos Lablabis (Bai Bian Don), Radix Dioscoreae Oppositae (Shan Yao), and Fructus Terminaliae Chebulae He Zi). [Pg.83]

Prolonged diarrhea with loss of securing and astringency, add Fructus Terminaliae Chebulae He Zi), Semen Myristicae Fragrantis (Ron Dou Kou), Fructus Schizandrae Chinensis Wu Wei Zi), and Fructus Pruni Mume... [Pg.96]

If this has gone on for some time, also add Fructus Terminaliae Chebulae (He Zi). [Pg.117]

The aqueous-soluble portion of the partitioned MeOH extract of stems of Terminalia chebula Retz. was found to be active in a whole-cell bioassay. Initial fractionation studies using 1 g of crude extract indicated that useful purification techniques were limited to liquid—liquid partitioning, LH-20 chromatography used in an adsorption mode, and adsorption chromatography used on polymeric stationary phases such as HP-20. All attempts to purify the active component by HPLC resulted in significant loss of matenal. A small amount, less than 500 pg, of the major active component was obtained by this method, but this quantity was sufficient only for NMR characterization. [Pg.136]
