Dr Rakesh Kumar Parashar completed his PhD in 1990 from the University of Delhi, Delhi, in the field of synthetic organic chemistry. He is a Reader in Chemistry at Kirori Mai College, University of Delhi, Delhi. He has done his postdoctorate from the University of Barcelona, Spain. He has published 22 papers in various national and international journals and has delivered several lectures in India and abroad. He is also the author of several books. He is actively involved in teaching and research for the past 18 years. [Pg.387]

Before beginning an academic career I was, of course, a student. My interest in chemistry and teaching was nurtured by many fine teachers at Westtown Friends School, Knox College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel ITill their collective influence continues to bear fruit. In particular, I wish to recognize David Macinnes, Alan ITiebert, Robert Kooser, and Richard Linton. [Pg.815]

Eric Scerri studied chemistry at the Universities of London, Cambridge and Southampton, and obtained a Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science from King s College, London on the question of "The Reduction of Chemistry to Quantum Mechanics," He has been a research felloiu in the history and philosophy of science at the London School of Economics and at the California Institute of Technology. He is currently an assistant professor of chemistry at Bradley University, where he also teaches histoiy and philosophy of chemistry, which are also his main research interests. He is editor of the new journal Foundations of Chemistry. Address Department of Chemistry, Bradley University, Peoria, IL 61625. Internet scerri bradley.edu. [Pg.35]

Complex flow-sheeting programs, that simulate the operation and a complete process, or individual units, have been developed by several commercial software organisations. The names of the principal packages available, and the contact address, are listed in Table 4.1. Many of the commercial programs have been made available by the proprietors to university and college departments for use in teaching, at nominal cost. [Pg.168]

Shahrokh Saba was born in Tehran, Iran, studied at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, where he obtained his B.S. in 1970. He continued his education at the University of East Anglia and received his Ph.D. in 1974 under the direction of Prof. A. R. Katritzky. During 1975-79, he taught as an assistant professor at Azad University in Tehran. He moved to the United States in 1980, and after postdoctoral fellowships in 1980 (Prof. R. Breslow, Columbia University), 1981 (Prof. W. C. Agosta, Rockefeller University), and 1982-83 (Prof. N. O. Smith, Fordham University), he assumed a teaching position at Kean College of New Jersey in 1984. He returned to Fordham University in 1986 and took up his present position, and is currently an associate professor of chemistry. His scientific interests include all aspects of heterocyclic chemistry, and new uses of simple ammonium salts in organic synthesis. [Pg.198]
