Teacher training courses

The use of Moodle within teacher training course proved to be extremely fruitful and yielded excellent results. For many participants it was the first opportunity to use this type of tool which resulted in creating their independent school platforms. Within the course very interesting materials were prepared which are currently used by teachers in then school work. E-education and E-test platforms provided by the Department of Chemical Education is at the participants disposal. Almost 200 teachers have finished e-learaing course Moodle step by step in Poland. As previously mentioned, to meet Health and Safety requirements class teachers must understand and apply the principles of risk assessment and follow regular and approved practice. If pupils are to become responsible, safety conscious adults, they too need to learn how to assess and control risks. This is an essential requirement of the National Curriculum Science Orders (DFE, 1995) that require teachers to promote in pupils a sense of personal responsibility for health and safety in the context of science (see Figure 7.1). Some of the courses, including chemistry, were merged with other science subjects to form the Normal School of Science (named after the Ecole Normale in Paris). The Normal School of Science was renamed the Royal College of Science (RCS) in 1890. At first, the RCS saw itself primarily as a teacher training college in practical science and, as such, attracted women students including some from overseas.

To counter these drawbacks, TheoPrax [3, 4] has, since 1996, been active in the integration of real business and industrial projects into school and university courses and also provides advanced teacher training programs [5-7].
