At this point, we pause the problem of synthesis of subsystems of separations. This will be resumed in Chapter 3, where a systematic methodology based on a task-oriented approach will be described in more detail.

Chapter 3 deals with the Synthesis of the Separation System. A task-oriented approach is proposed for generating close-to-ophmum separation sequences for which both feasibility and performance of splits are guaranteed. Some authors [WF1] have drawn a contrast between data-centric scientific workflows (or dataflows) and task-oriented business workflows.
