Data-centric

We are about to enter what is, to many, a mysterious world—the world of factor spaces and the factor based techniques, Principal Component Analysis (PCA, sometimes known as Factor Analysis) and Partial Least-Squares (PLS) in latent variables. Our goal here is to thoroughly explore these topics using a data-centric approach to dispell the mysteries. When you complete this chapter, neither factor spaces nor the rhyme at the top of this page will be mysterious any longer. As we will see, it s all in your point of view. [Pg.79]

A behavior-centric and data-centric approach Previous methods, such as OMT, have been criticized by behaviorists for what is perceived as a data-centric approach. In Catalysis the two views support each other simply. You describe the behavior of a component in terms of attributes that relate to the clients concerns rather than any implementation. [Pg.66]

Some authors [WF1] have drawn a contrast between data-centric scientific workflows (or dataflows) and task-oriented business workflows. In a scientific workflow, the flow of control is tied to the flow of data. In a business workflow, control flows between tasks that operate upon workflow objects, but the flow of control is independent of the data flow. Consider the difference between a workflow designed to extract novel compounds from a candidate data set and one designed to help a customer order a concert ticket. [Pg.427]

The data-centric computing model allows the large volume of data or highly sensitive data to be kept at the source of collection and allows software to be launched on demand to a system of choice (see Figure 8.14). The self-adaptive... [Pg.384]

So what is the solution If the mountain cannot go to Mohamed, Mohamed should go to the mountain. That is the data-centric computing approach. We leave the data where it is. Instead, we send the programs to go out and work on the data at their home site, where data are more secure, and to send back only the findings from the analysis, which are usually vastly smaller than the data. [Pg.453]

EDW (enterprise data warehouse) A database used as the foundation for comprehensive business intelligence infrastructure, typically characterized by a data-centric (as opposed to application-centric) database design. [Pg.518]
