Task observation work sheets

Step 1. Develop a standard observation procedure. Identify who should do formal observations. The author generally makes task observation a two-phase process. Both a quaUfied trainer (if available) and the front-line supervisor conduct the observation. (Not at the same time. Their notes and/ or work sheet are compared later.)... 

Step 3. Train the observers. Those conducting the observation should be given training in how to conduct task observation. They must learn to utilize the standard observation procedure and the work sheet, as well as generally how to conduct observations. 

For all experimental work, students are required to accurately and clearly record their procedures, observations, data, and results in their laboratory notebook on an ongoing basis while in the laboratory. To assist the students with the task of properly completing their notebooks, the audience has been identified as (1) themselves, as they will need the information in the notebook when writing up report sheets or formal reports and (2) other students with similar chemistry background who may want to repeat the experiment. 

Next, specific chemicals in the process and how each is generally used should be determined. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each chemical used needs to be obtained from the manufacturer of the chemical. Determine which tasks are performed during what jobs, and where and when those tasks are carried out. Employees in the work areas with the highest risk of dust exposure, such as drillers, laborers, baggers, and crusher operators, to name a few, should be especially observed in the initial walk-through survey of the operation. Maintenance and repair jobs that require working in confined spaces should be identified and described, and the frequency of occurrence should be noted.
