Targeted literature

The CWAs that could effectively contaminate our water supplies as a viable threat were targeted. Literature searches were conducted, and the publications were retrieved and reviewed. Areas of interest included TSS (USACHPPM, 2003), oral toxicity doses, water solubdities or miscibilities, stabilities, and half-lives. Attempts were also made to identify toxic hydrolysis products. The data identified are presented in Tables 3.2 and 3.3, and their references are presented in Table 3.4. [Pg.56]

Other measurable features in SMPs relate to the ability of the polymer to fix the imposed strain when subjected to deformation after cooling and offloading, otherwise known as shape fixity (Tobushi et al., 1998). Another relates to the ability of the polymer to recover from the collated strain during deformation after reheating to its former rubbery state. This is often referred to as shape recovery (Hu, 2007 Tobushi et al., 1998). Further elaborations on these important parameters are beyond the scope of this chapter and readers are referred to the targeted literature (Liu et al., 2007 Kang and Nho, 2001 Adler et al., 1991 Tobushi et al., 1998). [Pg.9]

A key feature of MFC is that future process behavior is predicted using a dynamic model and available measurements. The controller outputs are calculated so as to minimize the difference between the predicted process response and the desired response. At each sampling instant, the control calculations are repeated and the predictions updated based on current measurements. In typical industrial applications, the set point and target values for the MFC calculations are updated using on-hne optimization based on a steady-state model of the process. Constraints on the controlled and manipulated variables can be routinely included in both the MFC and optimization calculations. The extensive MFC literature includes survey articles (Garcia, Frett, and Morari, Automatica, 25, 335, 1989 Richalet, Automatica, 29, 1251, 1993) and books (Frett and Garcia, Fundamental Process Control, Butterworths, Stoneham, Massachusetts, 1988 Soeterboek, Predictive Control—A Unified Approach, Frentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, 1991). [Pg.739]

This Part of the book could as well have been titled "Synthesis in Action" for it consists of specific multistep sequences of reactions which have been demonstrated by experiment to allow the synthesis of a variety of interesting target molecules. Graphical flowcharts for each synthesis define precisely the pathway of molecular construction in terms of individual reactions and reagents.
