Target continued approach

Since tumor tissue is the primary manifestation of cancer, it contains the most immediate information and is the preferred material to investigate molecular targets. Experimental approaches will benefit from the enhanced protein concentration compared to body fluids. However, one major drawback of analyzing tumor biopsies is their limited availability and their heterogenicity which often requires microdissection. Alternatively, body fluids are the preferred clinical sources because they are most readily available in a noninvasive and continuous manner. [Pg.226]

The new approach expanded, rather than displaced, existing functional and technical capabilities. Screening—sometimes random, sometimes targeted—continued to be used and in many cases was less costly than discovery by design. In the continuing research for new antibiotics, screening remained the most effective approach to discovery, though both approaches were often employed. [Pg.181]

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Service) is expected to change its policy from universal screening to one which would allow state and local health officials to choose either a UNIVERSAL or a TARGETED screening approach. The federal policy would provide guidance to state and local authorities who could continue to design their own programs responsive to... [Pg.38]

After dewatering the cmmb it is fed to the drying process which is usually carried out in a continuous tunnel dryer. The cmmb is spread on a perforated stainless steel bed through which hot air is passed to evaporate the remaining water. Typically, in the first portion of the dryer, air at 110—140°C is used, with lower temperatures being used as the product approaches dryness. A typical target for final moisture content is 0.5% or less. At the exit of the dryer the product is cooled and conveyed to a baler which shapes it into bales for packaging and shipment. [Pg.521]

The stability of phytoene desaturase and lycopene cyclase transcripts also influenced accumulation of carotenoids. Efforts in directed evolution of carotenogenic enzymes have also continued. Alternate approaches using systematic and combinatorial gene knockout targets have allowed for enhancement of carotenoid production in the absence of a priori assumptions of regulatory mechanisms. [Pg.381]
