It can be seen that a number of information in CM is redundant (each bond is listed twice) and that a large portion of matrix is empty (elements are equal to zero). This indicates the structure can be represented more economically with a table of constant width w. Such representation requires only wN instead of N variables. In the i-th row of the new representation w data associated with i-th atom (chemical symbol of the element, sequential numbers and bond types to its neighbors) are stored. Such representation is called the connection table of a chemical structure or CT (Fig. 4.2).

Molar and Equivalent Conductances. A quantity much used in computations and in tables of constants is the molar conductance, Am. It can be computed from the specific conductance, l, and the concentration, C, of the solute, which is usually stated in mols per liter of solution, by means of the formula... 

Interestingly, most quantitative structural activity relationship (QSAR) studies usually commence by considering o (Hammett substitution constant) and, in case there exists more than one substituent, the a values are represented in a summed up manner as Za. Keeping in view the enormous quantum of synthetic newer target drug molecules, it has now become almost necessary and possible either to modify/refine or fine tune-up the QSAR equation. In fact, a substituent s resonance effect (R) and inductive effect (F) may be quantified as far as possible with the help of available tables of constants . In certain instances one may evidently observe that ... 

Extensive tables of constants can be found in the publications of Monch [2] and Eitel et al. [3]. A paper prepared at the Central Laboratory of the V B der Glas-industrie (Association of the Glassware Manufacturers), Ilmenau, GDR [4], contains the constants of chemical glasses as compared with those of porcelain, metals and plastics. Also, applications of glass as a constructional material and the ])roj)erties of glass fibres and products made of glass fibres are exhaustively dealt with. 

The tables and figure that follow are collected here for the convenience of students working on the problems in the text. The tables of constants should not be used for general reference, however, because a critical review of the research on which they are based has not been made. 

The table of constants of the alkaloids begins with emetine and the more important of its derivatives, including rubremetine (or dehydroemetine). The constants of cephaeline, emetamine, psychotrine and...

This monograph is a summary and a consolidation of the results of some years of work by Tatevskii and others, extending and elaborating some procedures introduced by Rossini and others. Properties calculated include molar volume, molar refraction, vapor pressure, enthalpy of formation from atoms or eiements, Gibbs energy of formation, and enthalpy of combustion. Three different methods are used. Tables of constants and illustrations of the accuracy of the methods are given.
