System Centric

Multi-static radar is usually combined with the net-centric approach to data exchange. All sensor sites have to be connected by high-throughput, self-configuring data links. The data links should also provide a very stable clock to make all processing coherent, and very accurate time data to synchronize all events in the distributed system. 

So SYSCO is the industry leader. It is big, national, and an outstanding performer. As expected, it is customer-centric. But why is the company so much more profitable than its competitors Is it just efficiencies of scale Or, is it something else The SYSCO story is more sophisticated and complex than just efficiencies of scale. SYSCO s competitive advantage is the seamless integration of two interrelated systems ... 

As such, any chemical registration system should be structure centric. It must assist the user to get the structure right—make sure the structure is compliant with all business conventions and salts are added correctly and charge balanced. The whole process of structure handling must be optimized to be as efficient, fast, and accurate as possible. 

Another issue is related to spreading viruses in the Internet. It is not entirely clear that in practice the spread of viruses is intensified by hubs. Viruses target individual computer systems or companies not hubs. Interesting network issues have been mentioned by Peter Denning [11]. He points out that network theories can help us to understand how innovations spread and how modem network-centric military and industrial organizations function. 

This is, of course, a very Terra-centric categorization, but so far we only have the unitary example of Earth from which to draw examples. Furfaro et al. (2007) have developed a fuzzy-logic-based scheme that goes more toward the fundamentals of coupled physical/biological planetary systems, but still it takes a restricted view oriented toward Mars- and Earth-like planets. It is entirely possible that Earth has a thin biospheric veneer compared to potentially more massive biospheres on worlds with deep ice-covered oceans such as Europa we just don t know. 

If one subscribes to the oxocarbenium-centric theory of glycosidic bond formation [20, 21], it is apparent from Scheme 5.2 that the grounds for stereoselective bond formation are slim. This is because neither of the two possible interconverting halfchair conformers of the oxocarbenium ion (4H5 and 5H4) appear to exhibit any overwhelming steric preference for one face of the system over the other [22],... 

The entire thermodynamic system of the membrane and TM protein must be considered to understand how the protein and bilayer achieve their native state. We have summarized four of the mechanisms, hydrophobic matching, tilt angles, and specific protein/lipid and protein/protein interactions that are important in determining the stability (Fig. 5). Other important factors, such as the stability of lipid/lipid interactions, have been left out of our protein-centric view. We describe a hydrophobic mismatch as an unfavorable interaction that can be relieved by the other three processes, but we would expect all these properties of the system to interact. We could easily describe the same equilibria by saying that a strain in curvature is relieved by a hydrophobic mismatch or that strong protein/protein packing interactions might help relieve the hydrophobic mismatch or curvature stress. The complex interplay between all these interactions is at the heart of what determines membrane protein stability and will no doubt be difficult to quantify. 

Summarizing the state-of-the-art and outlook for printed displays, it is clear that opportimities do exist for printing displays, particularly on the low end of performance. Within the next few years, opportrmities for such systems will become clearer. A key driver for such displays is the ability to integrate transistors for active matrix display addressing. Thus, the next topic in this chapter will focus on applications that are more transistor-centric.

The Navy should pay close attention to JWARN, since such a capability is sorely needed. As a participant in the joint process, it should ensure that JWARN is compatible with whatever Navy battle management systems are currently in use and that it is as free of stovepipe limitations as possible. As network-centric concepts evolve into future battle management systems with ForceNet, the Navy must ensure that chemical and biological sensors of all types are fully included in the sensor grid concepts from the start and not added as an afterthought. 

On the basis of such understanding, personalized medicine should focus on the whole body system of the humans or patients as the root of the diseases so that the same disease often needs to be treated differently in different patients. On the other hand, in many cases different diseases in different patients can still be treated with the similar methods if they share the common causes and mechanisms (such as inflammation). Such methods can help transform the disease-centered medicine to human-centric care. Furthermore, expanded and novel applications may also be found for available drugs for the common therapies in different diseases with common mechanisms, allowing for more efficient usages of drugs for a cost-effective care.
