Two adsorption vessels packed with molecular sieves constitute the initial part of the apparatns, where gas saturation takes place. The main absorption column is packed with Raschig rings and is operated batchwise to assess the absorption capacity of the desiccant fluid. Four collection points were inserted along the main column and secured with rubber rings. Samples are collected in glass syringes with stainless steel needles and taken for analysis in laboratory. 

Micrometer syringe pipettes are fitted with a micrometer head which operates the plunger of the syringe, and when fitted with a stainless steel needle tip can be used for the dropwise addition of liquid the volume added is recorded by the micrometer.

The details of the ESI source are depicted in Figure 3c, together with typical pressures of the chambers under operation. A 50%(v/v) water-methanol solution of the fractionated Au SR cluster with a typical concentration of 0.5mg/mL was electro-sprayed into the ambient atmosphere through the stainless steel needle of a syringe biased at ca. — 3kV. Ass a stainless steel cannula was not available, the checkers made a minori modification in the operation without any trouble. They transferred fthe supernatant pentane and the solution of the sodium enolate using a Luer-lock hypodermic syringe with a stainless steel needle, prefluslbed with nitrogen, and the apparatus was swept with nitrogen during this operation. 

Solid-phase microextraction uses a 1-cm length of focused silica fiber, coated on the outer surface with a stationary phase and bonded to a stainless steel plunger holder that looks like a modified microliter syringe. The fused-silica fiber can be drawn into a hollow needle by using the plunger. In the first process, the coated fiber is exposed to the sample and the target analytes are extracted from the sample matrix into the coating. The fiber is then transferred to an instrument for desorption. The technique has been promoted by Pawliszyn (69).
