Syphilis tertiary

Tertiary syphilis Develops years after the initial infection and may involve any organ in the body. 

As long as no evidence of CNS involvement exists, antibiotic therapy for gummatous and cardiovascular syphilis is identical to that for tertiary syphilis.

Gummatous A tumor of rubbery consistency that is characteristic of the tertiary stage of syphilis.

Potasii lodidum (iodide of potassium) Used in secondary and tertiary syphilis. Also, generally used the same as iodine (see number 47). 

Tertiary syphilis should have the same treatment, ensuring that it continues for 3 weeks.

Immunologic In 115 patients with syphilis, 26 with latent disease, 37 with primary syphilis, 51 with secondary syphilis, and 1 with tertiary syphilis, who were given benzathine penicillin, 10 (8.7%) developed Jarisch-Herxheimer reactions [44 ]. All the reactions occurred in those with secondary and latent syphilis. None had an allergic reaction.

In another case there was MRI evidence of cerebral infiammation after the use of penicillin in a patient with tertiary syphilis, in the absence of systemic symptoms of a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction [85" ]. 

It is a matter of historical record that Nebuchadnezzar had a period of madness, but other commentators attribute this to porphyria or tertiary syphilis.
