The cost of synthetic fuels must be looked at in light of the years of production. If plant investments were made now the escalation effect over a 20-year production period would be reversed. For example, Great Plains showed, Figure 3, that with plant construction starting in 1978 the synthetic pipeline gas would initially cost substantially more than natural gas - but over a 20-year period it would be considerably less costly. [Pg.36]
