It is widely believed that optimal methods for immunization against certain synthetic antigens may require the use of adjuvants, and this belief has stimulated a considerable amount of research aimed at developing new or improved adjuvants. The... [Pg.5]

These results were the first demonstration that Immunization with a small free (I.e. not coupled to any carrier) synthetic antigenic site Is effective In eliciting antibodies capable of binding to the ative protein molecule (48). [Pg.53]

Our finding that the small (6-7 residues) synthetic antigenic sites of Mb stimulated T-cells from peritoneal exudates of Mb-prlmed mice (47), suggested to us (73) that free synthetic peptides may be used during in vitro passage to enrich for T-cells with a selected specificity. Rowever, lymph node cells usually... [Pg.62]

The specificity of the antiserum raised against the Lea neoglycoprotein (9) was determined by hapten-inhibition studies using synthetic oligosaccharides,72 and derivatives of bovine and horse serum-albumin to which the Lea trisaccharide had been attached.73 On the basis of hapten inhibition of precipitation, this antiserum was shown to be highly specific for the carbohydrate portion of the synthetic antigen,... [Pg.262]

A biomolecule with specificity for a special molecule (which is used as a ligamd on an immobilization matrix) is modified by an affinity tag. The tag may be a synthetic antigen, such as Flag, which consists of eight amino acids and binds to an immobilized monoclonal antibody (72). The interaction of Flag with the monoclonal antibody is Ca -dependent and reversible at low pH. These features constitute an undesirable constraint when applying this fusion to affinity immobilize some enzymes. [Pg.13]
