Synthesis analysis and evaluation

Process synthesis is a task of formulating the process configuration for a purpose by defining which operations or equipment are used and how they are connected together. There are two basic approaches for process synthesis 1) classical process synthesis, analysis and evaluation, and 2) optimization of process structure by using a suitable objective function.

Furthermore, it is important to underline that the model of the unified transformational design has an internal structure that is fairly generic, and in all likelihood would be present in any specific implementation, namely, the cycle of synthesis, analysis, and evaluation. As can be seen from the goal structures in Figs. 9, 10, 12, and 13, synthesis, analysis and evaluation are the three common pivotal goals around which the specific design implementations are expressed. 

Clearly, when implicit enumeration techniques are used, the parametric and structural optimization carries out synthesis, analysis, and evaluation in an integrated, unbroken cycle of simultaneous computations. 

Outline an overall process flow sheet and material balance including solvent recovery and recycle. This should be done with the aid of process simulation software. [See Seider, Seader, and Lewin, Product and Process Design Principles Synthesis, Analysis, and Evaluation, 2d ed. (Wiley, 2004) and Turton et ah. Analysis, Synthesis, and Design of Chemical Processes, 2d ed. (Prentice-Hall, 2002)]. In the flow sheet include methods needed for controlling emissions and managing wastes. Carefully consider the possibility that impurities may accumulate in the recycled solvent, and devise methods for purging these impurities, if needed.

The synthesis, analysis, and evaluation of reaction paths is of fundamental importance in the chemical process industries. Research and development chemists and chemical engineers are often confronted with problems diich are best solved by utilizing chemical reactions. Figure I shows a matrix of the common problems and possible solutions encountered in the chemical process industries. Problems associated with products may be classified into those which deal with compounds or mixtures of compounds which are a new market for the company and those which are existing products. Separation problems which might be solved by chemical reactions (e.g. use chemical reactions to convert one or more of the species in a mixture...
