Swivel connection

Rotary swivels. The swivel connecting the nonrotating hook and the rotating kelley while providing a nonrotating connection through which mud enters the kelley. 

The outer jacket is mounted in the head stock chuck and a rubber tube and swivel connected to the pump stem. 

The stirring rod itself must be designed to suit the particular application. With a pear-shaped flask, one commonly uses a rod which is bent to allow it to sweep along the sides of the flask (Fig. 5-lOa). Spills are likely to occur during the dispensing of liquids. Use approved self-closing faucets to minimize these spills. Swivel connection faucets will prevent leaks caused by over-tightening. Spill trays placed under the faucets will catch drips. When dispensing from vertically stored drums, use approved transfer pumps.

Rotary Hose Safety Chain Attachment. Swivels with gooseneck connections in 2 in. or larger shall have a suitable lug containing a 1 - -in. hole to accommodate the clevis of a chain having a breaking strength of 16,000 lb. The location of the lug is the choice of the manufacturer. 

The swivel (Figure 4-88) suspends the kelly, allows for rotation of the kelly and drill string, and provides a connection for the rotary hose to allow mud circulation. 

Although the rotary hose is not a rotating element, it is mentioned here due to its connection with the swivel. It is used as the flexible connector between the top of the standpipe and the swivel, and allows for vertical travel of the swivel and block (Figure 4-89). It is usually 45 ft or longer. The way the stem is connected to the disc holder is different in each SRV design, depending on the manufacturer. It is of course very important that the force be transmitted equally therefore, a lot of designs have a swivelling joint connection so that the disc is correctly aligned on the nozzle. 

Animals are placed individually on a stationary treadmill (30 x 10 cm) and are connected to a signal conditioning system (Coulboum Instruments, Allentown, PA 18106, USA, Model V75-01) via a shielded multicore cable, connected at one end to the plug on the animal s head and at the other end to a swivel mounted 30 cm above the center of the treadmill.
