Hydro-extractors

Mr. Gamble was also the first to uso centrifugal machines, or hydro-extractors, for separating mother YGL, II... [Pg.929]

Hydro extractors with top drives are the most common kind. The drive may be by motor, direct-connected steam engine or by belting. Figure 29 shows a motor-driven machine. Balancing of this machine is done through three swivel bolts con-ru cted to tlic stand. It is necessary to have the center of gravity of the basket and its contents s earlv invariable in position as possible otherwise destructive stresses... [Pg.307]

Foremost among mechanical appliances for tjiis purpose ranks the centrifugal machine, or hydro extractor. In principle. this apparatus consists of an upright drum, which can be made to revolve with great velocity on a vertical axle. Tlie drum may hove its sides constructed of sheet metal, perforated with a multitude... [Pg.380]

Centrifuges (Fig. 3.7), sometimes called hydro-extractors or spinners , are another very common form of filter. They consist of a basket or cage, mounted horizontally or vertically, with holes in the side, which is rotated at a speed such that the centrifugal force throws the contents outwards. In a domestic spin drier the holes are large enough to allow the water to pass but not the clothes. The same principle is applied with a slurry but a filter cloth is fitted inside the basket to retain the solids in the suspension. It is usual to fit a coarse-wire gauze behind the cloth to increase the area available for the liquid to be thrown out. [Pg.48]
