Supply chain management history

It is significant to note that each of these three companies pioneered both product and process innovation over the course of the history of supply chain management. They spawned new business models. For Apple to be successful, it required the definition of ilUnes. Dell defined a make-to-order online business model. P G s work on customer-driven supply chains drove market share. 

Supply chain management requires an unprecedented level of cooperation between the members of the supply chain. It requires an open sharing of information so that all members know they are receiving their full share of the profits. Since many of the firms in a supply chain do not have a history of cooperation, achieving the trust necessary for supply chain management is a time-intensive task. 

In addition to specifying operating policies for the supply chain, one may find the linear state-space framework useful in studying important issues in supply chain management, such as the assessment of the potential benefits of information sharing between the retailer and the supplier (see more details in 4.3). In fact, it has been shown that in the elementary AR(1) and ARIMA(0,1,1) cases, there is no value for the retailer sharing information about the actual demand realizations with the supplier. With our supply chain philosophy, your supply chain management designs, reliable, fast, accurately scheduled, and extremely profitable performance networks, and with available resources. These networks run free of bottlenecks and with minimized waste within your enterprise. And, possibly for the first time in the history of your enterprise, you perform without backlog, free of bottlenecks, and on time. It is then relatively simple, but incredibly important to stabilize these backlog-free, on time performance networks within your enterprise. 

Finding solutions to these impediments and eliminating what becomes the Achilles heel of supply chain management requires a rigorous effort to improve sales forecast accuracy. That starts with the realization that most sales forecasts are based on history, adjusted by sales predictions. 

Figure 6.1 shows a supply-chain view of the aircraft service activities. Data are tracked in two separate databases Aviation Computerized Maintenance System (ACMS) and Aviation Maintenance Management System (AMMIS). The ACMS database stores individual part-level serial number tracking and history of repairs and planned maintenance. The AMMIS database tracks flow of the broken part as it is repaired. In the original system, these two databases did not communicate ([27]). 

The change in demand forecasting processes is a major change management hnrdle for the traditional supply chain. The shift from a focus on history to a focus on market drivers, or to align on demand assumptions versus debating nnmbers, is a cnltural redefinition.
