Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in supply chain balanced scorecards and performance management are one example for analysis methods. Beamon (1998) and Chan (2003) distinguish qualitative performance measures such as customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, fill rate or flexibility as well as quantitative measures based on costs in distribution, manufacturing and inventory or warehousing.

The chapter addresses the development cycles of e-services. The service cycles progress from supply and demand chains, to value chains, to service value chains, and finally to service value networks. The service cycles enable service businesses to develop competitive business solutions overtime. The chapter also offers a balanced scorecard mechanism to manage e-services. 

The initiative that underpinned the e-supply chain project was the development of a Balanced Scorecard on a data warehouse management system. The GW sites could access the data warehouse with appropriate password control and compare the site performance with other sites for range of metrics related to customers, suppliers, quality, factory, cost, growth and innovation. 

In essence, 35% of the published articles addressing instruments and methods of supply chain control deal with business metrics, 20% with the balanced scorecard and 16% with supply chain costing.
