Super-additive property

Y = n/T = H and T = T w) (we assume T > 1). As it has already been shown in Section f. 6, establishing the existence of the free energy for periodic models is just a matter of exploiting the super-additive property of... [Pg.70]

Consider now the case s = sup a /n < - -oo it suffices to show that liminfn oo an/n > s. Note that for every > 0 one may find no G N such that > (s—e)no- By writing once again n as kno + m, the super-additive property immediately yields... [Pg.215]

Type 1 refers to ordinary thermodynamics. Type 4 is the classical analogue of the thermodynamics of the Scfiwarzschild black hole, it violates the property of concavity, however, it keeps the super additivity. [Pg.73]

In addition, considering that the super surable properties of Japanese lacquer is dependent on the cell structure made up of urushiol ( a phenolic compound) and plant gum (polysaccharides), based on this model, this cell structure in theory, generally speaking, could be expanded to improve the durability of all synthetic polymeric materials in a combination with polysaccharides which are most aboundant, being made by cultivable plants utilizing the endless resources of sun rays, water and carbon dioxide. Much research is contemplated. [Pg.246]

AR-Lon 6100. FDA and USDA excepted, the properties of AR-Lon 6100 markedly improve abrasion resistance and product fiow. The chemically resistant epoxy primer has excellent adhesion and fiexibility. The super-slick properties of polytef are combined with a urethane topcoat that provides additional impact protection and abrasion resistance. It is baked on at over 200°F (93°C). [Pg.710]

Zinc was also already in use for protection in seawater in 1824 (see Section 1.3). In the beginning zinc material that was available from the hot-dip galvanizing industry was used but was less suitable because it became passive. Passivation does not occur with high-purity zinc. Super high grade zinc is the anode material with the least problems [5] and consists of 99.995% Zn and less than 0.0014% Fe without further additions. It is specified in Ref. 6 and permitted by the German Navy [7]. The most important properties of pure zinc are listed in Table 6-1. [Pg.185]

When iodine is dissolved in hydriodic acid or a soln. of a metallic iodide, there is much evidence of chemical combination, with the formation of a periodide. A. Baudrimont objected to the polyiodide hypothesis of the increased solubility of iodine in soln. of potassium iodide, because he found that an extraction with carbon disulphide removed the iodine from the soln. but S. M. Jorgensen showed that this solvent failed to remove the iodine from an alcoholic soln. of potassium iodide and iodine in the proportion KI I2, and an alcoholic soln. of potassium iodide decolorized a soln. of iodine in carbon disulphide. The hypothesis seemed more probable when, in 1877, G. S. Johnson isolated cubic crystals of a substance with the empirical formula KI3 by the slow evaporation of an aqueous-alcoholic soln. of iodine and potassium iodide over sulphuric acid. There is also evidence of the formation of analogous compounds with the other halides. The perhalides or poly halides—usually polyiodides—are products of the additive combination of the metal halides, or the halides of other radicles with the halogen, so. that the positive acidic radicle consists of several halogen atoms. The polyiodides have been investigated more than the other polyhalides. The additive products have often a definite physical form, and definite physical properties. J. J. Berzelius appears to have made the first polyiodide—which he called ammonium bin-iodide A. Geuther called these compounds poly-iodides and S. M. Jorgensen, super-iodides. They have been classified 1 as... [Pg.233]

That DNA would bend on itself and become super-coiled in tightly packaged cellular DNA would seem logical, then, and perhaps even trivial, were it not for one additional fact many circular DNA molecules remain highly supercoiled even after they are extracted and purified, freed from protein and other cellular components. This indicates that supercoiling is an intrinsic property of DNA tertiary structure. It occurs in all cellular DNAs and is highly regulated by each cell. [Pg.931]

We have developed a catalyst-free method of biodiesel fuel production by supercritical methanol (10-12), and we found that the process becomes much simpler and that the yield of biodiesel is higher compared with the alkaline-catalyzed method. The aim of the present work was, therefore, to investigate the possibilities of biodiesel fuel production from rapeseed oil with various alcohols by supercritical treatment. In addition, the super-critically prepared biodiesel fuel was studied for its cold properties. [Pg.794]

VFL is a novel vinca alkaloid obtained by semisynthesis using super-acidic chemistry to introduce two fluorine atoms selectively at the 20 position of VRLB. The preclinical evaluations of the new derivative VFL have already suggested that certain in vitro assays, in addition to in vivo experiments, could be proposed to select more rationally newer generation Vincas. Moreover, recent studies have demonstrated that certain newly identifled properties, such as antiangiogenic activities, could enlarge the therapeutic usage of natural and semisynthetic vinca alkaloids. VFL is presently in phase III experimentation for treatment of bladder cancer and nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) [72]. [Pg.29]
