Near the end of this study guide you will find additional sections that may help you to study for the final examination in the course. The SUMMARY OF SYNTHETIC METHODS lists the important ways to synthesize each class of compounds discussed in the text. It is followed by the SUMMARY OF REACTION MECHANISMS. Both of these sections have references to appropriate portions of the text, in case you feel that further review is necessary. Finally, you will find two lists of sample test questions. Summary of PDHS Structure, The information concerning the solid-state structure of PDHS that has been obtained from the studies discussed in the previous sections is summarized in the schematic drawings of Figure 19, although the complete crystal structure of PDHS has not been reported yet. The unit cell of the well-ordered phase I is monoclinic, with a and b dimensions of 1.375 and 2.182 nm, respectively, and the angle y is 88° (9). The c dimension is 0.400 nm (26), which implies that the backbone has an all-trans conformation. As discussed in the toxicology guidance document for FCSs (Table 2.3), the recommended toxicology information includes both an overall safety narrative and a comprehensive toxicological profile for the ECS and each of its constituents. The safety narrative summarizes all the information relevant to a conclusion that the intended use of the FCS is safe. The comprehensive toxicological profile consists of summaries and critical evaluations of all the available toxicological information pertinent to the safety evaluation for each substance. This information includes reviews and conclusions of toxicity studies on the FCS and other relevant substances that are either published in the literature or available elsewhere. [Pg.27]
