Sulfur ammonia

Petrochemicals are those chemicals produced from petroleum or natural gas and can be generally divided into three groups (/) aliphatics, such as butane and butene (2) cycloaliphatics, such as cyclohexane, cyclohexane derivatives, and aromatics (eg, ben2ene, toluene, xylene, and naphthalene) and (J) inorganics, such as sulfur, ammonia, ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, and nitric acid. 

Reforming catalysts are typically platinum on a silica-alumina support. The catalysts are deactivated by feedstock contaminants such as organic nitrogen, sulfur, ammonia, and H2S. For this reason, the reformer charge is hydrotreated to remove these components. Also, any trace metal contaminants will be adsorbed onto the hydrotreating catalyst.

The authors have stated that in the IGCC process, it is desirable to treat the fuel gas streams at higher temperatures than typical of current processes so as to maximize process efficiency and minimize the impact of precombustion CO capture [3]. Commercial aqueous amine and physical solvent processes respectively require the gas stream to be cooled to 40°C and to -40°C or lower [3]. Iran s petrochemical industry is striving to be a major player in the region. There are eight government-owned petrochemical production companies and three privately owned petrochemical/chemical companies. The major petrochemical products are ethylene and its derivatives, propylene and its derivatives, benzene, toluene, xylenes, pyrolysis gasoline, propane, butane, pentane, ethylbenzene, and styrene, as well as sulfur, ammonia, and its derivatives. In early 1999 there were 21 construction projects in the areas of petrochemicals, petroleum, and environmental cleanup [13]. 

From 1980 s, several research groups studied the components of EFE, independently [4,5,6]. Different purification methods were employed to isolate the enzymes, including sulfuric ammonia precipitation, gel filtration, ion exchanging, high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC)... 

The sulfur—ammonia cycle appears to be a previously unexplored cycle that has been put forward by the Florida Energy Centre in the USA. The novel step in the process is the photocatalytic oxidation of ammonium sulfite, (NH4)2S03, to ammonium sulfate, (NH4)2S04. The latter is then used to split water. 

In Australia, CSIRO intends to demonstrate the technology through the design of a pilot-scale sulfur—ammonia unit that can be integrated with its established solar tower see Figure 2.4, Chapter 2. 

Some of the streams contain valnable by-products such as hydrocarbon oils, sulfur, ammonia, as well as valuable elanents in (and properties of) the ash (Braunstein etal., 1977 Probstein and Hicks, 1990).

The plant is operating well. During government ownership of the facility, modifications were made to improve minor problems and operation (8). Basin Electric has made additional investments and modifications to further improve operation and recover some of the valuable chemical by-products (9). The plant now operates at a production level of about 160 million scf/d of SNG and annual capacity factors of about 110% of original design (10). Table 3-3 is the gross material balance for the plant at current production levels. Table 3-4 lists the many potential chemical by-products. The plant already sells sulfur ammonia and small amounts of liquid nitrogen.
