Reaction sulfides

This reaction is cataly2ed by silica, bauxite, and various metal sulfides. The usual catalyst is activated alumina, which also cataly2es the reduction by methane (228). Molybdenum compounds on alumina are especially effective catalysts for the hydrogen sulfide reaction (229). [Pg.144]

Soluble sulfides (i.e., H S, HS" and S ", with sulfur at minus two oxidation state) are chemically very reactive. The two general types of soluble-sulfide reactions may be identified as precipitation reaction (type A) and redox reaction (type B). [Pg.1334]

Excretion of hydrogen sulfide was documented after dermal exposure in rabbits. Trunk fiir of rabbits was clipped and left intact or abraded for exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas (unknown concentrations) for 1.5-2 hours the animals then breathed clean air (Laug and Draize 1942). Evidence for the excretion of hydrogen sulfide by the rabbits was a sulfide reaction of the expired air with lead acetate paper (Laug and Draize 1942). Sulfides in the expired air were noted in one rabbit with intact skin after 7 minutes of exposure. This study was limited by the lack of measurement of exposure concentrations and the small number of animals used. [Pg.87]

Yu and Bailey (1992) studied the reaction of nitrobenzene with four sulfide minerals under anaerobic conditions. Observed half-lives of nitrobenzene were 7.5, 40, 105, and 360 h for the reaction with sodium sulfide, alabandite (manganese sulfide), sphalerite (zinc sulfide), and molybdenite (molybdenum sulfide), respectively. Aniline and elemental sulfur were found as reduction products of nitrobenzene-manganese sulfide reaction. Aniline was also a reduction product in the nitrobenzene-molybdenum sulfide and nitrobenzene-sodium sulfide reactions. Several unidentified products formed in the reaction of nitrobenzene and sphalerite (Yu and Bailey, 1992). [Pg.844]

The mechanism of the N03 radical reaction with DMDS is complex. The rate constants for the N03 reaction with CH3SCH3, CH3SH, and CH3SSCH3 (Table 8.17) are similar and much larger than that for the reaction with H2S. This suggests that by analogy with the dimethyl sulfide reaction, the initial step is addition to a sulfur atom to form an adduct that then reacts further ... [Pg.334]

The kinetics of intercalation have been followed by FTIR and QCM gravimetry. For example, the frequency change of a QCM with a 20-layer CdAr film (exposed to H2S) was followed as a function of immersion time in a CdCl2 solution (Fig. 3.5.5) (46). The percent conversion [calculated from mass of film on QCM and stoichiometry in Eq. (3) reaches 100% within about 100 min immersion. In contrast, time-resolved FTIR spectra of CdBe/H2S and HgBe/H2S films immersed into Cd2+ and Hg2+ solutions, respectively, indicated that the intercalation of metal ions into the LB film of BeH takes 24-48 h to complete (21). The kinetics of the sulfidation reaction [Eq. (4) are discussed in a later section. [Pg.244]

Unlike covellite, the silver sulfide reaction with Hg(0) vapor is not exclusively a redox process. XRD analysis showed that no silver sulfide remained in samples having consumed 42 wt% Hg(0) and that cinnabar formation was minimal. The products formed are mercurial amalgam, HgAg, and Ag,HgS as reflected in Reaction (2). Reaction (2) does not account for two third of the initial sulfur present, however, no residual crystalline sulfur was observed in the diffraction data. None the less, this reaction reflects partial reduction of the silver(I) and oxidation of Hg(0). [Pg.770]
