Sugars clarifying agents

Clarifying agents or flocculants are used to eliminate turbidity or suspend particles from liquids, e.g., chill haze in beer, precipitates in fruit juices and wines, and haze in oils. Often, they provide a nucleation site for suspended fines. Examples of clarifying agents are lime in sugar juice clarification, pectic enzymes to break down pectins in fruit juices, and gelatin for clarification of fruit juices. [Pg.283]

Tribasic calcium phosphate occurs in nature as minerals, oxydapatite, whitlockite, voelicherite, apatite, phosphorite. It has many industrial applications. Some are similar to the monobasic and dibasic salts. It is used in fertilizers, dental products, ceramics and pohshing powder. Compounds 11 and 15 with equatorial-A -OW showed similar activity, while compound 16 (substituted 4 -OH with ox/aM -Ns in the sugar moiety) lost its cytotoxicity.
