Success, types

Many successful types of reactors are illustrated throughout this section. Additional sketches may be found in other books on this topic, particularly in Walas Chemical Process Equipment Selection and Design, Butterworths, 1990) and Ullmann Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology (in German), vol. 3, Verlag Chemie, 1973, pp. 321-518). 

These are the most successful types of reactors presently available. The Internal reciprocating plunger types, for example, that of Nelles in Jankowski et al (1978), do not provide a steady uniform flow. Of those operating with rotating blowers or turbines, the best known are those of Garanin et al (1967), Brown and Bennett (1972), Livbjerg and Villadsen (1971). These and that of Rbmer and Luft (1974) are shown on Figures 2.4.2 a-d. 

The first successful type of fusehead was invented by Krannichfeldt in Germany. This sandwich type of construction is used in many countries, including Great Britain, and is illustrated in Fig. 10.2. 

In a rather loose sense it can be stated that these successive types of reactions impose increasingly stringent requirements on a catalyst. Thus, catalysts which are active in reactions of the last type are normally effective also for the first two types, but the converse of this is not as generally valid. There are, however, in each class of reaction, examples of catalysis by all three types of catalysts (homogeneous, heterogeneous, and enzymic). 

Since the 1970s, nerve surrounding electrodes have become the most successful types of implantable biomedical electrodes in clinical use. For example, they have been used for stimulation of the lower limb [12], the urinary bladder [13], and for recording neural signals [14,15]. Some electrodes have been safely in use for over 15 years [16]. They have been investigated intensively and many efforts have been made in respect to spatial selectivity and nerve fiber recruitment. 

CB - 6%. Erythrocytic acid phosphatase has been found to remain viable for many months after drying and successful typing can be performed on a minimum of several threads (9), (Figure 2). 

If an apparatus has been designed, constructed and successfully type tested according to established standards (e.g. according to European Standards EN. .. drawn up by CENELEC), the compliance with the ESRs is assumed generally (the so-called assumption of conformity - to be completed - with the ESRs ).

It is a successful type of fluidic diode particularly suited for operation at quite high operating frequencies. Its operation may be explained by considering the difference in the widths or diameters of the issuing jets in the two opposing flow directions. The difference is due to the flow separation from the walls of the contraction, which lacks the diffuser property of keeping the flow attached. 

We also successfully typed DEN4 in the laboratory by our rapid mass cataloging approach [74]. In an analysis completely analogous to that in Table 4.4, Table 4.5 shows successful experimental typing of DEN4 using alternate PCR primers. Using the primers described by... 

A variety of electromechanical devices have been utilized as coulometers. One successful type depended on a low-inertia DC motor operating a turns counter (19). Another is the ball-and-disk integrator, which has been widely used in connection with a potentio-metric strip-chart recorder for chromatographic and other measurements. 

Sedo and Zdrahal provide in Chap. 7 specific examples of MALDITOF MS profiling for successful differentiation between strains of the Lactobacillus acidophilus group and sqXqcXcA Mycobacterium spp. In these two examples, careful optimization of the culture protocols contributed to the method robustness. In addition, strains within the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-Acinetobacter baumannii complex. Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis ecotypes can be successfully typed by utilizing two alternative sample preparation protocols alternative MALDI matrix solution or microwave-assisted tiyptic digestion of the intact cells. 

The senses are key to life as they permit the perception of outside stimuli. The commonly cited ones include hearing, touch, sight, taste, and smell, and allow humans to obtain physical and chemical information about their environment. Attempts to use the same principles and build instrumentation that measures such parameters have resulted in sensors that measure physical parameters, such as pressure, temperature, and the intensity of light, as well as chemical sensors that can be used to measure the concentration of specific chemical species in air and water. Arguably one of the most successful types of chemical sensors are ISEs, which can be used to determine the concentration of selected ions by comparatively simple measurements of electrical potentials with a voltmeter (Figure 2).
