Substrate preparation flaws

The production of a rubber lining includes the preparation of the rubber compound followed by processing to form the lining sheet, substrate preparation, lining application, vulcanisation and inspection. All these stages require thorough quality control, especially compound manufacture and sheet preparation, as chemical resistance depends on satisfactory dispersion of the individual ingredients and undetected flaws in the sheet will cause problems in service. 

Quarry Tile Tile is used in much of the food process and food preparation areas, also toilet and change areas. In general, it is installed without an asphaltic membrane but with a thin adhesive membrane usually an epoxy type. As noted above, the concrete substrate must be true to line without irregularities such as humps and bumps. All such flaws will telegraph through to the finished surface. Cleanliness is a major attribute of the quarry tile installation. For example, in a synthetic elastomer plant the raw latex when spilled stuck tightly to the concrete floors. Quarry tile was used with an epoxy bed and a furan joint (very narrow, Vie"). Due to the greater density of the quarry tile the unvulcanized material cleaned up easily. 

The effectiveness of a coating is related to the absence of pores or flaws and it increases in proportion to its thickness. The application requires thorough surface preparation, because a durable bond to the substrate is essential for coating effectiveness. The same applies to filling blowholes in the concrete surface. 

Substrate surface preparation, which affects the nucleation, and interface formation in a desirable manner without introducing flaws into the surface.
